Readers find this title to be a collection of amazing stories that are great for bedtime. Parents love listening to these stories with their children, and it works like a charm to help them sleep. The book is of high quality and the sound is cute. Although there are negative reviews mentioning violence and slavery, the majority of reviews focus on the positive aspects of the book and its ability to entertain and engage young listeners.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a very good listen! The stories are some of the old standbys. The book is of very nice quality, cute sound, and stories just right for bedtime. I cannot wait to share it with her.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Way back when, stories told to children weren't just for children. They taught that the world is not a safe place. That the unexpected can jump out and bite you. That you have to work hard and persevere to succeed. These fairy tales have not been Bowlderized. That's why I like them.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a great bedtime story. I really enjoyed it
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have a fantasy and fairy tale obsessed almost 4 year old who is coming out of a three little pigs phase. He looooves this book. Great versions of all the classics.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing stories for my daughters. We listen to them every other night. Works like a charm.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5BEWARE!! BEWARE!! THIS IS HARMFUL FOR CHILDREN. CONTAINS VIOLENCE, SLAVERY AND KILLING.
DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN LISTEN!!!
I am shocked. This book is horrible for children!! The title of this book/audio book makes it sound as if it is great stories, fables and fairytales for children to hear. That is absolutely wrong.
This book is quite harmful for children.
It has awful and frightening things in it.
Which teaches little ones things like: You can’t just bluff and bluster with scoundrels. You’ll have to kill some of them to make the others leave you alone.
There is the giving of the gift of people/slaves as possessions to show wealth. There is the distinction between black slaves and white slaves. One being worth more. If you are rich and wealthy you have gold and slaves. The guy we are rooting for during the story ends up rich with a castle, the beautiful princess and slaves.
Those are just 2 of the many disturbing things.
I had heard that the original Grimm Tales were really severe and not for kids in their original version, but i didn’t expect that i would, in modern day, find an audio book of bedtime stories for children with no warning that the book/audio book contains horrifying lessons, violence, killing, buying enslaved people as an expected and perfectly normal thing to do if you have money.
I think older violent and inappropriate fables and fairy tales should be kept in their original form for reference and historical reasons, but if they are being told again now, they need to be changed.
Some of these fables and fairytales currently are damaging and they teach immoral lessons (killing and slavery and more,) I know people have changed parts of the Grimm stories to make them better for children, so if we do that well we can keep our well loved fables and fairytales that have been passed down generation to generation and are part of cultural reference.
Thank goodness i was listening to this to put myself to sleep and not a child.
This book is absolutely, completely inappropriate and harmful to children.
It needs a warning. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5We love this book. We listen stories from it everyday. One of my daughters all time favorites.
