About this audiobook
An Alex Award Winner
From New York Times bestselling horror writer Stephen Graham Jones comes a classic slasher story with a twist—perfect for fans of Adam Cesare and Grady Hendrix.
1989, Lamesa, Texas. A small west Texas town driven by oil and cotton—and a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. So it goes for Tolly Driver, a good kid with more potential than application, seventeen, and about to be cursed to kill for revenge. Here Stephen Graham Jones explores the Texas he grew up in, and shared sense of unfairness of being on the outside through the slasher horror Jones loves, but from the perspective of the killer, Tolly, writing his own autobiography. Find yourself rooting for a killer in this summer teen movie of a novel gone full blood-curdling tragic.
Editor's Note
Meta take…
It’s a typical high school party in 1980s Lamesa, Texas — until a shocking turn of events transforms loner Tolly Driver into a serial slasher. As Tolly wreaks havoc on his small town, only his best friend, fellow outcast Amber, may be able to stop him. Gore and gusto abound in this meta take on classic slasher horror, written by the one and only Jones (“The Only Good Indians,” “My Heart is a Chainsaw”).

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The 80’s references took me back to my teenage years. This not my favorite genre, but I’m glad I tried it. I have already recommended it to another former 80’s teen.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is fun. SGJ always has great narrators and this was a cool story. He created characters I really liked and I loved the slasher theme.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5the perfect campy start to spooky season!! originally the cover was what grabbed my attention, but i really enjoyed the story
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Terrible. Just one long rambling stream of consciousness that is hard to follow. Also, I wish it mentioned the supernatural element in the description.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Loved the 80s slasher movie vibes!! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this book! (Might be some slight spoilers in my review) What a great and for me really original horror twist!! Dug the campy horror movie thrills and from the killers perspective no less? Tolly is a character who even though totally a killer, you kind of want him to be successful?! Definitely puts you in a weird headspace rooting for the villain.
