    Trying to sort out his unsettled life, writer Sam Grover decides to stay with his Aunt Marina in Summerland, California. Marina’s closest friend and artist, sexy Alex Brandt had recently seen Marina and Sam in town together, and his interest was piqued.       Chapter 1

      Well you can’t just sit there looking so wistful, c’mon, you can tell me about what’s wrong, Marina said to her nephew Sam Grover.

      He swirled the ice in his drink while looking out the window at the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean.

      Yes Mom, he countered sarcastically, stopping the swirling to take a deep sip of his Gin and Tonic.

      Marina pushed her long auburn hair back from her face and then turned to look at Sam in frustration.

      Sam, everyone has this happen to them it’s just a fact of life. Not every relationship is meant to work out and most of the time for a good reason, she told him, watching his eyes glaze over.

      I don’t mean any disrespect here, Auntie, but what in the hell makes you an expert on the subject at hand? I was in a relationship that didn’t work out, okay I get it, one of several as you are quick to remind me, and yes I know it was over a year ago, but it still bugs me to no end.

      I never said I was an expert, smartass, but I’ve had my share of relationships too and while some were good some were not so good. I know how much in love you were with Jimmy, but I could tell from the start he wasn’t right for you, not at all. He was much younger than you are and wasn’t ready to settle down, a simple fact of life my dear. He was running you ragged with the parties and going out all the time. For heaven’s sake, he couldn’t even hold a steady job, she reminded him.

      I know all that. I just think there are some people that are meant to be alone that’s all, I just didn’t think it would be me.

      I don’t either, the right man will come along soon, trust me, she said, sounding a bit sad herself.

      Is this my aunt the enchantress speaking? I know how you place your trust in your spiritual guides and all, but this time I think they should be taking pity on a hard luck case, he said bitterly.

      You know better than to be disrespectful of the spirits Sam, you surprise me. I’ve lived my life with them as my guides. Why do you think I found Summerland, California the perfect place to live? After all it was founded and named by the Spiritualist movement. Take a look at the name Summerland online sometime, smart ass yourself. And your crack about my being an enchantress doesn’t impress either you know, she huffed giving him the thoughtful eye and shaking her head.

      Well I guess I just strike out on all accounts now don’t I, he said, turning again to look out the window.

      Not just in love as it seems, he added.

      Poor boy, always feeling sorry for yourself, that last fling of yours with Jimmy wasn’t too impressive as you should know, and he never really treated you right at all during the time you were together. Just be glad you dodged the bullet and he’s now part of your past and get on with life.

      You’re probably right, he sighed, but I foolishly did believe he might have been the one.

      And he thought you were one of the ones, for heaven’s sake. Every time your back was turned, she began but was cut off by Sam holding up his hand, shaking his head, and this time looking pissed.

      Okay Marina, I get the picture so stop right there.

      Look Sam, why don’t we get out of the house for a little while, maybe a walk on the beach. I’m kind of antsy and need some fresh air, she said while standing, glancing at the clock.

      Sounds good to me, so let’s go down to the beach, what else did you have in mind if I might ask?

      Let’s grab some coffee’s down at the cafe before we go, and then we can take a nice long walk on the beach if that is good with you. I feel like dealing with raw nature for a bit right now, and of course some caffeine she said.

      You know Summerland beach has always been a favorite of mine, he said looking out at the churning sea once again.

      That’s fine but don’t get your hopes up, the nudity laws are now strictly enforced so you won’t be getting any of that kind of raw nature, she laughed, earning a look from Sam as he rolled his eyes.

      Soon they were walking along the beach enjoying the sun sparkling off the water and the distant Channel Islands. It was still a warm fall day with several sea birds keeping them company as they walked along near the cliffs, hoping for a handout.

      Once a haven for nude beach goers, time had tamed the landscape and now it was populated by beachcombers after the Pacific storms.

      I can remember the time when this beach was filled with people freely enjoying themselves smoking, drinking, and of course cavorting in the nude. It was a sight to remember, Marina reminisced.

      I can remember you bringing me down here when I was just over eighteen and saw all that. From what I remember it was quite the gay hangout as well. At least then you could do some window shopping without being disappointed with the purchase, he snickered as she laughed at his joke.

      Boy is that the truth. But keep in mind it was all the beauty queens of either persuasion roaming the beach and displaying their wares. It really gives me the creeps when I think back to some of the trolls parading around trying to hit on any unfortunate that happened to glance in their direction, she said suppressing an involuntary shudder.

      She was thinking of the more determined troll types that would not take ‘no’ for an answer.

      Sam shook his head remembering back to that earlier time.

      I’d imagine, but that probably happens anywhere on any beach, nudity or not. Still, it is still nice to see what you’re getting before buying as I mentioned, he repeated, for example, like that super cute guy over there, the one by the rock. He looks incredibly hot for a guy in what I would guess are his early forties, but you never know these days, he said turning to take another look.

      Marina flashed him a big smile, and then turned
