I have written several books on IELTS that have been published in China, selling over 200,000 copies. My work has also been used to create various apps which have been downloaded tens of thousands of times. The books that I will be publishing on Smashwords are updates of my published works, modified for the international market. The majority of books will be in the 'English 101 Series' which has proven so popular in China. The cover photographs on the Smashwords editions are all by the author.

About the Author
Introduction
Finally! A book dealing with Writing Task 1 of the IELTS General Training test!
This book does not tell you how to write letters, but it does show you. Candidates wishing for more details on how to write letters should use my book ‘IELTS Writing: A comprehensive Guide’, available from the same website where you found this book. Some of the model answers from that book are repeated here.
The letters in this book of model answers are categorised by topic. On the Internet, many websites dealing with this part of the test divide the letters according to the objective of the letter. This is fine, but sometimes the questions require candidates to write letters with more than one objective.
IELTS General Training candidates should note that it is very easy for the test makers to change one or more of the points to be included in the letters. This is sometimes done to prevent candidates from memorising answers.
When answering the points in General Training Writing Task 1, remember that it is not necessary to answer the points in the order in which they are presented. In fact, as many of these model answers demonstrate, it is often more convenient not to do so.
If you would like some model answers for Writing Task 2, I have written 2 books with 101 model answers each, available from the same website where you found this book.
Thank you for purchasing this book and I hope that you will join me via the Internet links provided at the end of this book.
Accommodation
1. You have been offered a place at a university and wish to find suitable accommodation. Write a letter to the accommodation officer including the following information:
the type of accommodation you wish to find
some details about yourself
any special requirements you may have
and any other relevant information.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I recently received confirmation that I have gained a place on the M.Sc. Microbiology course at your university, starting this September, and am writing to you with regard to arranging for accommodation. My student registration number is 123456.
I understand that you offer accommodation both on and off campus, the latter costing between £15 and £30 per week. I would prefer to live off campus in a house with two or three other students, each student having his/her own room, ideally within a 30-minute walk of the university. I have budgeted for rent of £20 per week. If possible, I would like to remain in the same accommodation for the entire duration of my course, i.e. two academic years.
I do not have any special requirements, but would prefer to share the accommodation with students my age (I am 25) who are actively interested in sport. I myself am a keen rugby player. I do not mind whether the other students are on a similar course to me or not.
I would be grateful if you could send me details of two or three choices at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Andrew Scott
