      I don't know how I found this book, but it has taught me to leave my past and to reach what is ahead of me- what God has in stored for me. truly disappointment is inevitable but we can conquer it through faith and by being patient. Thank you pastor Reg! God has used you in simple ways for others to see greatness in themselves through Him.

    What is Disappointment?

    In my diary, I have maybe thirty book titles that God has given me in recent times, topics for me to write on. About six or seven days ago, God spoke to me. He said, I want you to write a book called, 'How to Handle Disappointments' and another book called, 'How to Pray for Your Family.' That second one will most likely be my next title; I'll have to save it for another day. I felt led to start with a book on how to handle disappointments.

    We are often let down in this world. And generally, it's not simply a one-time occurrence - it happens over and over again. Sometimes you will feel that your parents have let you down. Or, perhaps your brothers have let you down, your sisters or your spouse or a friend. It could even be your workmates who have let you down. When someone lets you down, it can take your soul down to a place so low that you feel you can't bring it back up again.

    It is not only people, circumstances can also let us down which are not necessarily connected to any person. A job opportunity doesn't come through, or you can't get that loan for the house you wanted, or you don't get accepted into the university you hoped to attend. Any form of letdown has the power to carry us down into disappointment.

    I can only speak for myself and from my experiences, but disappointment is a difficult thing to handle. If someone were to disappoint me in some way, for instance, someone I have worked with or helped out decides to walk away from me, something like that it is not easy to take. But it happens. A day invariably comes where someone in your life says, Listen, I just want to let you know my time is up with you. I don't think I will be part of your ministry (or some other part of your life) anymore. I need to move on. Those words sink into your heart, your spirit, and it affects you deeply, sometimes for many years.

    When things like that happen to me, I go through a period of two or three days mulling it over: what I could have done differently and how I might have avoided it. It's not always easy to run to the arms of Jesus at the first moment and get His mind and perspective on it through His Word. It comes more naturally to mull it over, think about the person's words, and try to figure out what went wrong.

    One of the symptoms of disappointment is unanswered questions. It happens systematically after being disappointed; lots of questions arise within you. It is basically a trigger mechanism that comes into play when you are disappointed. You ask yourself so many questions. You try to justify yourself: If I had done this, if I had done that.

    We all face disappointments, but knowing that fact doesn't always make them easier to deal with when they arise. You can't avoid disappointment. It is part and parcel of the nature and life that God has given to us. He originally created a perfect world, but since the fall of mankind and the entry of sin into the world, disappointment became a part of this run-of-the-mill life we live.

    One thing that we can determine is how we handle disappointments. Some people, when severe disappointment has arisen, have ended their lives; for others, it triggers a deep depression. For some, disappointment brings a person to a place where they sulk throughout their life to such an extent that they never advance or grow. They will never go very far, much less end up where they are supposed to, where God desires for them to go.

    Over the 26 years of my ministry, I have seen disappointments that, rather than allowing a person to grow, have actually stunted their growth. Why? They were not able to see what God had in store for them in the future; they were not able to cling to simple faith and trust in God, so their destiny slowed down to a point of absolute standstill. The whole world just seems to stand still for you when you face day after day, year after year, decade after decade of extreme disappointment. If you can't find a way to move on from that place of frustration, you end up stuck in the same place spiritually and emotionally. How do we keep from spiralling into despair after a disappointing setback?

    In my days at seminary, we were told that Habakkuk was a minor prophet. He was not considered a major prophet, however, he did have some great things to say. There is a profound scripture which speaks about a vision he has
