The Ultimate Free Candidate Interview Prep Guide - Ben White
Welcome!
By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail
– Benjamin Franklin
While I think the above quote a great motto in general, there are few places that is more relevant than the pursuit of a new position. As a Recruiter who has placed and help hire thousands of people over the course of his career I feel like I have seen the results of preparation and lack thereof in the hiring process more than most people ever will. I have had conversations where I can tell the person has done their homework and is ready to field any question I might decide to throw their way. I have also had calls where the candidate thought they were interviewing for a totally different company and clearly hadn’t positioned themselves to succeed. The fact that you are reading this right now tells me you prefer to be the former and want to avoid an awkward conversation that essentially ends up being a waste of everyone’s time.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Ben White. I am a Senior Recruiter and I run the blog www.gettingthejobhq.com. I have been featured as a written contributor on Recruiter.com, CareerBuilder.com and the Newark Journal. I have also published a book designed to be a front to end manual on careers from a recruiter’s perspective called Getting the Job, which you can find here My eBook. Enough of that, what is this? This is designed to be a quick prep guide on interviewing. A quick hit anyone can read to better position themselves for an upcoming interview.
In this eBook I wanted to cover things that will help you once you have either decided you want to get a new job or once you have lined up an interview and want to be prepared. I am going to cover optimizing your LinkedIn and why that is important, making sure your resume is ATS (applicant tracking system) friendly and positions you well for the role you want, making a good first impression when it comes to setting up your interview and preparation for the interview. I will also cover why you are being asked certain questions, how you need to answer them and finally, the questions you need to ask.
Some of the most exciting times I have had as a Recruiter were in my early days as a Head Hunter. While that job is can be as stressful as they come, it comes with its fair share of highs as well. Unless you have been there it is hard to understand the anticipation of having your candidate out on a final interview. Waiting for them to call you from the parking lot, hopefully with good news. Having that first
