    Preface

After years of being bullied, Jessica goes mute because she feels like no matter how many times she speaks up against her bully, no one will ever be willing to listen to her. She eventually finds her voice when a stranger introduces her to music. Jessica’s life is one filled with ups and downs and it gets no better when she losses her only surviving relatives. She moves to another country for a fresh start but the past comes back and fortunately for her...it bears gifts of hope.

    Chapter 1.

    Kate's POV.

D octor I don't understand ...she has been here for over 8 months now, and it is only now that you figure out that there is nothing wrong with my little sister?! I shout at the top of my lungs...I work damn hard to pay him and this stupid hospital.

Miss, please calm down, you see...Jessy is okay, we ran all the necessary tests, and it seems that there is nothing wrong with her Doctor Melony says and I stand up furious.

Then why can't she speak!? I ask frustrated.

Jessy was born a normal child, she could speak, play around and just be normal...but two years ago she stopped speaking completely.

On a random day, I got home and my grandfather ran up to me and told me that Jessy had fallen off the stairs at school...I went to the hospital immediately and the doctor said she was going to be fine but when she woke up...no words came from her mouth till this day and I have taken her to all the specialists I could find but nothing, they all say that she is okay.

Miss Parker, I understand your frustration but Jessy will speak when she is ready The doctor says and I sit down in defeat...oh God.

Sorry for lashing out doctor I say with a low tone, my voice coming out a little different.

It's okay...I will need you to sign these release documents then Jessy will be ready to come home with you

    Okay

My little Jessy! My grandfather says when I open the door to enter our house.

Jessy walks in before me and she looks at my grandfather with a smile and right then and there, I know that seeing our grandfather will make her speak again.

She runs up to him and hugs him and I cannot help but smile...this is beautiful...she is going to speak.

When I was about 10 years old and Jessy was 3, our mother left us with our father who later died along the years, we then moved to Kayax to live with our grandfather, our father's father. Grandpa Joe and Jessy are very close, so it makes sense that she will speak now.

How are you my angel? Grandpa Joe asks and much to my disappointment Jessy looks at him then she just shows him her thumb, which is just a short way of saying she is good...oh God.

Grandpa Joe is also good and he made you the best dinner ever Grandpa Joe says and I can see that Jessy is happy to know that grandpa Joe is well.

Uhmmm little one, why don't you take your stuff upstairs I tell her and she takes her bags and heads upstairs.

Kate...why is she still mute? Grandpa Joe asks.

Grandpa, the doctors say she will speak when she is ready to

    But why-

Grandpa let us just give it time okay? I have a feeling her fall from the stairs traumatized her I tell him and he looks at me as if understanding my logic.

Okay, anyway I found her a school, she starts Monday I tell him and he smiles.

That is great, thank God...speaking of which, can we please go to church tomorrow? He asks.

Sure, I will drop you guys off

Kate He says and I know a lecture is about to be served on my plate instead of dinner.

    Grandpaaaaaaaaa

You are never at church, it has been years now, what keeps you so busy on a Sunday? He asks and I look away...I don't deserve to be at church, my sins are past repentance.

Work, please dish up I am hungry I change the topic and he just shakes his head at me.

You know, just because you are a drug dealer doesn't mean you don't have to go to church My friend Elias says.

For real Eli? I sell things that ruin innocent lives I tell him as I open the door to my office and we both enter.

Innocent? They choose to be druggies He replies.

Still it's- I stop as I spot a huge box on my table.

    What's in there? Eli asks.

We both just got here, I am as blank as you I say as I walk towards the box and I try to lift it but it's heavy.

Here Eli hands me his pocket knife so that I can use it to open the box, I put my bag down then I take the pocket knife from him.

I open the box and I see bags of cocaine and I look at Eli confused...I do not have a shipping arrangement and even if I did, I fetch the drugs from the harbor myself.

Did I mix the dates up? I ask him.

No, call the harbor guys an-wait, there is a note on this bag Eli says as he grabs a bag from the box and he turns the bag the other way round and I see a message directed to me and Eli.

This is my turf now, find a market elsewhere or else...

This isn't even cocaine it's just sugar Eli says throwing the stuff off my table.

What does this stupid note mean? I ask.

Ugh, probably some new comer dealer trying to steal our territory, I would not be bugged, after all...no amateur will ever make me sweat Eli says and I look away...I don't have a good feeling about this.

Hey relax, we good okay? Eli assures me after he sees the look on my face.

Eli and I started selling drugs at a very young age. We were selling for a very powerful man, sadly he died and he left everything to Eli and I since he had no heir whatsoever, so we never really had to battle it out with anyone with regards to territory, it had already been established.

I have seen in other places how fights for territory can get really ugly...there is always bloodshed and it scares me because I have never had a reason to use my gun.

Kate? Just chill out man, it's probably just some person trying to scare us just because Big Daddy is no longer alive but we got this He says and I just sit down then I check my phone.

I am waiting for a text from my grandpa, I have to pick him and Jessy up from church.

    Okey dokey

    How is Jessy?

    She is okay...still mute though

    What do the doctors say?

She will speak when she is ready

    So she is perfectly fine?

    Yep

    Chapter 2.

    Jessy's POV.

Iam currently sitting outside the headmaster's office waiting for my sister to finish sorting out my school paperwork. I look at everyone as they all pass me but not without giving me a look...they can stare all they want but I won't speak.

I know it frustrates my family that I refuse to speak but Derick Young took away my voice two years ago when he pushed me down the stairs. I can still see his face, smirking at me, daring me to speak up against his constant bullying...his friends giving him high fives, telling him that he is the ‘man’.

I yearned to speak but I spoke out so many times to the headmaster that I started to believe that I am mute.

Leave me alone I say under my breath.

What was that little one? She wants me to leave her alone Derick says to his friends and they all start circling around me while laughing...

    Stop! Stop! Please ju-

Stop! I say as someone taps me on my shoulder and I look up to see my sister.

Jessy are you okay? She asks and I am sure she is expecting me to talk because I just did but...that was a mistake.

I nod at her and she gives me a sympathetic smile.

    "We will speak when
