    Preface

Adam and Lilith were happy; they shared a love that Lilith thought would never end.  Deceived by Adam, she became a terror that still haunt the world through folklore.  But the true story of Lilith, Adam's first wife, is not what it seems.  Lilith has been called many things: a goddess; a demoness; a whore and even a killer of children.  These stories tell the tales that man, yet this book gives a new and exciting insight into the life and death of Lilith.

Enchanted, is the story of a descendant of Lilith, whose name just happens to be Lilith as well.

Lilith is a teenager looking for some excitement in her ordinary life.  She soon finds that her family has a secret; a dark secret that threatens not only her, but all of mankind.  It's summer vacation and Lilith sits at the window seat in her bedroom.  She sits, bored and depressed that her best friend is going away for the summer.  Lilith believes that this will be just another ordinary summer, spent with her mom Lauren, her father Edward, and her younger brother Ethan.  But Lilith will soon find that there is nothing ordinary about the days to come.  Soon Lilith will find herself in the biggest battle of her life, of anyone's life for that matter.  Sure to shed a new light on the story of Lilith, Enchanted offers countless twists and turns, it's not a fairy tale, nor is it a religious piece.  It is pure action and excitement, with a supernatural spin. The story of Lilith as it has never been told before.

    About the Author

Single mother of three, P. Marie set out on a journey to fulfill her dreams.  As a full-time mom and homeschooling coach P. Marie mentioned that she does not take much time for herself.  Yet her entrepreneurial spirit remains ignited. 2014, is my year, says P. Marie.

With a background in business marketing and administration; as well as elementary education, P. Marie has flexed her creative muscles, and has finished her first novel.

The story of Lilith intrigued me, said P. Marie.  Every story has two sides and I am all for female empowerment.  I figured that it was about time to tell the tale from a different perspective, she said.

When asked, what is the goal of publishing this novel, P. Marie simply replied: I set out to fulfill a dream and to teach my children that anything is possible, you simply have to try.  I wanted to show them that I achieved my goals.  Maybe not every goal, and maybe not all of the time, but I will never give up entirely.  I set a goal to write this novel and I saw it through. I am proud of my accomplishment.   I want my children to understand that in order accomplish your goals you must do more than merely talk about it. You must go after you goals, with swift action, strong determination, and a positive outlook.  If I have taught them this lesson, then my whole heart has been fulfilled," explains P. Marie.

    YOLO,

    -P. Marie

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to my family and friends.

And those who thought that I could not see this through, this book is for you.

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

    CHAPTER 1

Lilith sat on her bed; her headphones pulsed as she listened to the music. The thumping music almost put her in a trance, for a moment she had stopped thinking and her eyes closed.  It's dark here and what am I doing here anyway? thought Lilith. I was just at home; this has got to be a dream.   But it was so dark and Lilith could feel movement all around her, though she could see or hear nothing. She felt chills on her skin.

She wanted to run but she could not see a thing, and what would happen if she made one misstep? She wondered. It was that point that Lilith realized that she could not move; it appeared as if some mysterious force was holding her still. She wanted to leave and began to panic, she wanted to wake up but she couldn't. Lilith felt a foreboding presence surrounding her.  As she struggled to move she tried to scream out but there was no sound and her panic grew to complete and total fear.

All of a sudden Lilith felt the air change, she could feel the vapors of a warm mist gently falling down upon her. In the stark darkness she feared that her eyes were playing tricks on her as she could see a light in the distance that was not there even a moment before. Just then a force knocked Lilith to the floor and she heard a snarly voice tell her to run. She looked around but she still saw nothing but darkness, only a very faint light in the corner of the room. Lilith seemed to be entranced by this light.   She finally managed to snap herself out of it and began to run, falling and tripping over her feet a few times before reaching daylight.

As Lilith stood outside she tried to make sense of what she saw. It's beautiful, she said.  Now, out of the darkness, she found herself standing at the end of a cave with a view of a whimsical land that you see in a fairytale.  As she took in the view she saw mountain tops with beautiful waterfalls, forest of green and flowers of all colors sprang around. Beautiful birds soaring, crystal clear lakes and thatched cottage houses. The colors were so vivid, this can't be real, she said aloud.  I've never seen a sky this blue, thought Lilith.

"Oh great! I went from a nightmare to a sugary sweet kids movie, what kind of dream is this? Said Lilith.  Just as the panic and fear that she felt in the cave began to settle she suddenly had that sinking feeling again.  Lilith knew that something was coming up behind her, yet she was too frightened to look.  As she began to turn around slowly, something screamed out, WAKE UP! So loud that she fell backwards and began to plummet. She was falling to the depths but she was not scared, she somehow knew that she would be okay.

Just as Lilith was about to make contact with the ground, she heard the voice scream out again, shouting WAKE UP! Even louder this time. Lilith tried to brace herself, and when she opened her eyes, she realized that she was standing atop of her bed with her arms reaching out as if she were trying to grasp for something, anything.

I was asleep, it was a dream, Phew, said Lilith. But why am I standing on my bed? And why don't I remember actually falling asleep? This is really freaky, she thought. Lilith pounced down on her bed and sat pondering her dream, which now seemed a bit fuzzy. My memories are a bit blurry but I just can't shake that voice, why did they tell me to wake up?  Odd, she said to herself.   It's something about that voice that is so intriguing, yet I don't know why, she thought.

Lilith placed her headphones on the nightstand.   She walked to her bedroom window and sat at her window seat, it was about 11:30 AM and she was still bumming around in her room.  Another ordinary day she thought, I might just shrivel up and die of boredom, as she shrieked and slumped over on the seat.  What an awesome summer vacation this is, she said sarcastically. Robyn and Janie said this would be our best summer ever, our last summer vacation before our senior year, yeah right.

Robyn's family won this stellar vacation from her dad's job and left me for the summer and Janie had a death in the family. Yeah me, all alone, she thought. Just then she realized how cynical she sounded. I'm happy for Robyn, she and her family deserve this trip, and I'm sorry about Janie's family, I really am. I have to stop feeling sorry for myself and get out of this house.

Lilith was never the adventurous type, she played everything safe and by the books. And if she were going farther than ten minutes from home, she always had someone there to accompany her.

This stops today! She screamed to herself. I have to start living my life, I'm so bored, and I can't stand it. In a huff, Lilith headed for the shower. As she stood in the shower a warm mist filled the air, there was something vaguely familiar about it, but she couldn't figure out what. Just then, memories of her dream began to flash in her head. But she remembered something new. Just as she was falling she saw a big black cat on the top of a cliff. Not a household cat; something more like a panther, with emerald green eyes.

Lilith had been in the shower trying to figure out and understand her dream for so long that the water began to run cold, she turned the handle to shut the water off. Lilith stood in her enclosed shower and an impending feeling of doom came over her again, like a cloud hovering over her. All of a sudden everything was quiet, too quiet, and she felt as if she were frozen by fear and unable to move just as in her dream

Oh, this is silly, she thought to herself. I have to dry off and get on with my day; I'll just open the shower door and reach for the towel. You do this everyday, she thought to herself. But today was different, the dream she had really rattled her, and why did she awake standing up on her bed, there's nothing normal about that, she thought to herself. You can do this, she chanted repeatedly in her head, and she opened the shower door, as she reached slowly for her towel chill bumps covered her skin. These are the moments when you hear the loud trembling overture playing in an Alfred Hitchcock movie. She continued to reach for the towel but she needed to step put a little bit more...she grabbed it almost teetering out of the shower.

Lilith dried off and wrapped the towel around her and went to her closet.  Full of boring and ordinary clothes, she thought.  Lilith's normal fashion sense consisted of jeans and a t-shirt with a bun in her hair, but today she felt different and she couldn't figure out why. She reached for a pair of skinny jeans but this time she paired it with a crop top blouse, one that showed her midriff. This was a rare occurrence, as Lilith always tried to cover up.

Lilith had a body that any teenage girl or grown woman would die to have, though she does not feel very attractive and since Lilith does not see her own beauty no one else does either. Yet, there was something about Lilith; she did not look like anyone else in town. For one thing she was one of the only four African American families in town. Everyone else was Caucasian, with a handful of different ethnicities scattered about. But it was something very different about Lilith. She had very stoic features, as if she were a Greek or Celtic goddess in a past life. She was tall and slender, with long flowing golden hair, and brilliant emerald green eyes. She was stunning, though she downplayed herself as an attempt to fit in.  After dressing, Lilith jolted downstairs and grabbed a quick bite to eat. She was alone, as both of her parents were at work and her brother was a summer camp for the day, no one would be home until about 7 PM. And off she went...

Chirp, Chirp--the alarm sounded on Lilith's car. A green Toyota Scion, it was a gift from her dad. On her birthday Lilith's dad surprised her.  My beautiful daughter, with the beautiful green eyes, needs a matching car don't you think? said Edward.  Lilith squealed, she was so excited she couldn't wait to drive it. Now that excitement has faded, and it seems like any other car-just ordinary she thought. Why does everything end up so plain and boring? She wondered. Lilith drove, not knowing where to go next, she had no purpose today, she just wanted an adventure; something less than ordinary.

Lilith stopped at the drive-in of the local coffee house and grabbed a caramel frappe, with extra caramel. As she drove off she thought of places that makes her happy. The lake! She thought to herself.  She always felt happy at the lake, like she could do anything.  The lake was about thirty minutes away, full of winding roads that lead up the mountain towards the lake and is filled with beautiful scenery.

Lilith had been to the lake more times than she could count; yet she had never gone by herself. Why not she said, I don't have anything else to do, and I love it there. I'll use my sketchbook to draw; I'll be fine. But she wasn't certain; she never went more then ten minutes away by herself, and never half an hour away through winding mountains. But Lilith was determined to set out alone, as she stepped on the gas to see what adventures awaited.

Lilith made it to the bottom of the mountain; she stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to look at the height. Although she felt the urge to turn around and go back home, the need for an adventure over ruled. As she drove up the winding mountain roads she could see her town below.   The roads took her higher and higher the city view became miniature in size. The mountains are so majestic and beautiful, not like the brown massed caricatures in cartoons, she thought to herself.   The mountains are full of colors from amber to rustic sienna.

The sky seemed bluer and the air was crisper. She pressed the button to roll the windows down so she could feel the mountain air against her skin. Lilith always got cold easily, but today she yearned for the air, she felt free, happy and anything but ordinary.  Lilith saw the sign for the lake and proceeded to turn right. She eased into the makeshift parking spot. She went to the trunk to rummage for her things; she grabbed her bag pack and threw in her tablet, a bottle of water, wallet and her cell phone. She grabbed a blanket and she shut the trunk.

Chirp! Chirp! Went the alarm.  Lilith walks a few steps from her car when she noticed something; no one else was at the lake. Usually the lake was sprinkled with teenagers and families, chasing each other, having makeshift bar-be-cues and having a good time. But no today, she did not see a soul around, not unless you can count the birds and critters that she kept hearing as they scurried around in the bushes.

The lake was an enchanting place: The beautiful bright greenery of the trees, the sound of birds singing; it was a miniature forest at the mid range of the mountain. With the water from the lake that created a stream that seemed to last for miles. It is where the young kids would play and splash around, but not today because no one else seems to be here, thought Lilith.  Weird, she said to herself, and she shrugged and continued to walk.

Lilith decided she wouldn't venture too far, after all, she is all alone out here.  She took her bag and lay on the hood of her car. As she took in the scenery she could have swore she saw a shadow out of the corner of her eye.  My imagination is getting the best of me, she thought as she laughed the moment off. Lilith soon grew bored of using her tablet, and she began to feel more comfortable with her surroundings. Taking her bag with her Lilith began to walk around the lake, snapping pictures with her camera phone. Everything is so beautiful here, said Lilith.  Lilith took so many pictures that her camera storage was almost full so she put her phone away and headed for the stream.

It's so relaxing, said Lilith as she followed the stream. Lilith watched as the water whimsically rushed over the pebbles and pushed the leaves as though they are sailboats heading for rough seas. The sound of the water trickling was intoxicating and invigorating; yet at the same time it was peaceful and calming and Lilith began to feel drowsy.

Lilith may have had an ordinary life, but she was a ball of energy, her friends and family were always telling her to calm down or take it easy. Yet, this was a secret to everyone else, as the people in town she was a quiet as a church mouse. Everyone knew Lilith or knew of Lilith, but she passed through town and school like a ghost; she was there but no one really saw her.

But for some reason Lilith becomes more and more drowsy, so much so she felt as if she were drugged. Starting to worry she raced towards her car. The harder she tried to get to the car, the more her head began to spin until she fell to the dirt in a pile of leaves. Lilith awoke to the sound of leaves crunching, and she once again heard a voice say, Wake up! Though the voice came from a distance away. Lilith struggled to get her bearings as she became more alert and was able to sit up.  She scanned for the lake...for the stream...for her car...and nothing. It was all gone.

Where am I?  She thought, as she began to panic. Where's my car, what's happening. As she stood up, scanning the area nervously, she noticed something, she knew this place, but it was not the lake. She looked around frantically, trying to find her car, but it was nowhere to be found. And she had a feeling to continue would be a futile attempt.  Lilith looked up and jumped as she heard a rustling in the bushes.  Lilith began to panic and as she looked around frantically she found that she did not have anywhere to hide. This place was different, but as she began to focus and take a close look at her surroundings she knew exactly where she was...the place from her dream. Did I fall asleep again? She thought.

Lilith pinched herself, and the sensation felt real, as real as the bruise that was sure to form on her arm. Ouch! She screamed, that hurt.  Why do I keep dreaming about this place? And how did I get here? I was at the lake, right? Or had that all been a dream too? Lilith was starting to question her own sanity.  I'm not sure what's real and what's not anymore.  Lilith did not know what to do, if this was a dream why couldn't she wake up, and if this was real how did she get here?

She perched herself under a tree to sit down for a moment, where she soon began to drift off and she awoke.  As she woke up she looked around hoping to see someone or something but it didn't happen. After about an hour she knew that she needed to do something. I can't just stand here, she thought to herself. But where do I go? It's nothing around; it's no one around for that matter. She began to walk back towards the way that she thought she left her car, she walked for almost a mile and began to get tired.

She took refuge under a tree and that's when she noticed...this was the same tree that she awoke under. How'd I get back here? I walked straight ahead, not in a circle. What the hell is going on? All of a sudden Lilith felt a strange ominous presence surrounding her, although she saw nothing. The hairs on her arms began to stand on end. She shut her eyes tightly hoping to wake herself up but it did not work. She heard a faint scream that said RUN! And without question she did just that.

Lilith was an extremely fast runner but she felt like the farther she ran the closer the presence got. She stopped and fell backwards, but this time she bumped her head. With slightly blurred vision, she held onto something next to her and managed to stand up. Her head was throbbing and her vision blurred, but she noticed that she was holding the same tree that she had awoke at.

I don't understand, she gasped. Her panic now became tears; she knew she needed to get away from here. Help! Help! She screamed, but the only motion came from a flurry of birds that she scarred away with her screams. Her fear was taking over; panicked and trembling, not knowing what to do, Lilith began to cry. A hush filled the air and a warm misty breeze came flowing over Lilith. And she calmed down; she suddenly felt as if everything would be all right. She felt at peace, blissful, and pure. It was exhilarating. For a moment she just sat under the tree enjoying the warm breeze as all her troubles melted away.

Unfortunately, before long the ominous feeling crept back and that euphoric feeling began to fade. I need to get home, she thought, but how? She stood but she began feeling dizzy again and her legs began to buckle. The last thing she heard before she clamored to the ground
