The Bottom, The Gift of Desperation - Markanthony Silvia
Trigger Warning
This book is graphic. The following themes are written about plainly and, in some cases, with great detail:
Substance use disorder
Intimate partner violence
Alcoholism
Self-harm
Abandonment
Child abuse
Rape
Drug overdose
Incarceration
Suicide
Homelessness
Crime
Violence
Prostitution
War
These issues touch the lives of everyone. Many people experience at least one of these traumas—some people experience many of them, or perhaps all of them. The Storyteller has been witness to all of these. The book is written as a graphic story of the horrors of life in this world, as they all connect with the illegal drug trade. But why? Why did these events become words on a page?
The journey of healing, for this man, is about expression. He has freely disclosed the events of his life, regardless of how agonizing, humiliating, or final they may be. Telling the story is part of the healing process. Our prayer for you is that reading the story sets you on a healing journey of your own.
Healing hurts. This written work does not claim to wash away the traumas of this world, but it demonstrates that desperation can truly be a gift. For those who have the capacity to look beneath the surface, we see The Storyteller as a human with a journey to first experience the darkness of this world, then mark the way to recovery for all of those who he found at The Bottom. If you find yourself there, take his hand and walk from that place into a better world.
INTRODUCTION
The Storyteller
This is the story of a man—one man who made an incredible journey. This man's story is one that needs to be told. And the Story takes many forms. The journey we speak of also has many forms. The Storyteller has embarked upon a new journey—telling this complex and important story. The intention is that this man's story will bring hope to those struggling with addiction, and healing to those who have survived it.
The Story will show you the darkness of humanity, the consequences of narcissism, and the price of greed. This Story will take you into the dysfunction and the tragedy of a wounded society operating from an imbalance of power.
But we will not leave you with that, dear friend. The Story, and the man who tells it, will give you a renewed sense of hope, and of faith in humanity. The Story is meant to heal, empower, and to uplift. But like many epic journeys, one must pass through the gates of hell to bring light to the underworld that is within each of us. After experiencing his darkest night of the soul, The Storyteller has learned to master the art of integrating all of the parts of a human—body, mind, and spirit. The process takes incredible courage, as one must oftentimes break down and fragment all, in order to reassemble the pieces of a divinely inspired human. The Storyteller has done this, and wants you to hear his story. This written work has been created in order for all mankind to see the light.
Within these pages you will read channeled messages. These are the interpretations of an unnamed medium. Her messages are meant to communicate to the Reader on a psychic level. When you read these parts, let your mind remain open and receptive to the messages brought forth from another world. The activations behind these words are meant to be received as loving witness to what is beneath the surface of each and every one of us—a spirit of endurance, resilience, hope, and love.
Who is The Storyteller? He is a Bard, storyteller, shaman, musician, and a warrior. And this man has an unbreakable bond with a remarkable woman—his mother. In this, his book, you will learn of the determination of The Storyteller, and of his decision to take this arduous journey. Your heart will break as did his. But bear witness to a stunning triumph, and a redemption that words cannot adequately describe.
Fly with him and you will experience visions, and you will journey into places both dark and light. You will hear color and see music. You will join him in the joyful discovery of what is possible for the spectacular human to accomplish. You will taste resilience, dedication, and commitment.
A few words about music.
Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.
Plato
Also, within the pages of this book, you will learn about the importance of music in the life of the Storyteller. From early childhood, through all stages and seasons of his life, Markanthony always had his music—ever changing; lurking in the shadows or in center stage; emerging as a song for his life. His song, as told through his story, may be similar to your song, as music is common ground. A deeper connection between souls on this earth can be forged through music as a form of storytelling. This song is one that may mirror that of many readers, each having walked a similar path. You may experience that which Roberta Flack sang about in her profoundly crafted 1973 song, Killing Me Softly. As you read this text, you will perhaps feel the way these lyrics describe:
He sang as if he knew me
In all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me
As if I wasn't there
And he just kept on singing
Singing clear and strong
And if this book does indeed evoke powerful memories and overwhelming emotions, keep reading. For the goal of this book is that of a healing journey—for both the Reader and for the Storyteller. Whether your medicine is found within words, pictures, channeled messages, or music, let this work bind your wounds. It is the prayer of this work that you will find true recovery.
The music that inspired this work can be found in the Bibliography section, at the end of the book. Also included is a Playlist for The Bottom. May you find joy, restoration, and life within the artistry of these brilliant works.
FROM THE CHANNEL:
Come to me in a dream and tell me your story.
He comes to me in a dream. Within him is the story. His is a story of darkness, of mystery, of the unknown, and of the seeking. Will he tell me the story?
Suddenly, I hear sweet music. I imagine his hands caressing the smoothness of the keys, as he lovingly summons the notes. Within the dream, form begins to emerge. The rhythm of his body moves with the passion of his song. He commands. The music bursts forth from his soul. A glimpse is all I learn for now. Will he tell me more?
Now he is strumming. His fingers stroke the strings with perfect touch. He is in control. The vibrations of his music tell more. With each movement, he reveals. Music is his sacred language.
He speaks to me in song. He sings of the universe from whence he comes. His lyrics are from spirit, and they tell of a great journey, and a deep longing for home. Where is his home? How much will he let me know? The voice is both haunting and divine, as is the message.
I am beginning to know him. I have heard his melody and felt his harmony. But there is so much more.
Now I see. As his body comes into my sight, I see his art. The pictures on his body tell me a new story. By his colors he unveils joy, pain, love, and loss. The tapestry of him covers skin and sinew. The codes light up, as a mapping of his life and his soul. I must decipher, follow, and unlock the meaning behind the breathtaking images. He is a vision of complexity—of history and future. He is a dream within a dream.
Without touching him, I feel his warmth. The heat of his spirit emanates beyond his boundaries. He is at once natural and electronic. He is a healer and a warrior. He is the blue spectral night, carrying the dream for all to dream. His story has just begun, and it unfolds only to those who can understand. Call out to him, and he will answer. The secrets he carries will wound, then bind. They will cut, they will separate. But then they will restore, and they will heal. Only those who dream, as does he, will know his story. Only those who remember home, as does he, will hear him. Only those who possess visionary love, as does he, will see him.
THE SWAN
The assembly of this book was assisted by the oracle of the Swan. The evolutive journey of the swan became as metaphor for that of Markanthony, and that of spirit.
Each person who reads or hears this work is on a path of change. This experience is vastly different, yet equally profound, for each. The swan is a creature of immense change, and epic journeys. According to Colette Baron-Reid, author of Wisdom of Avalon Guidebook, when one draws the swan card during an oracle reading, they are about to enter into a season of life that brings tremendous change. This change promises to be a positive one and will possibly lead you through a total transformation.
The Ugly Duckling is a well-known children's tale, originally published in 1843. Nearly instantly, this work by the wonderful Danish author Hans Christian Anderson (1805-1875), became world renowned classic literature. It is a story of identity and perception. There is no greater metaphor, in story, than this fable—things are often not as they appear.
We see plenty of references to swans in the Holy Bible. And as is in keeping with bible interpretation, the passages are somewhat ambiguous. For example, Leviticus 11 actually teaches that it is an abomination to eat a swan. One would imagine this is because of their beauty, and they should not be butchered and eaten. But this is not the case. Swans are forbidden as food for humans
