About this ebook
He often wondered about the costumed people and who they really were. And then, he jumped on the opportunity to travel to Venice, Italy, to photograph the Venetian Carnival, one of the most beautiful festivals in one of the most enchanting cities in the world.
In Beginning in Venice, he shares a collection of photographs from that trip and narrates the stories behind the photographs. With an eye for composition and color and for capturing remarkable moments, these pictures document the wonderful events of outrageous costumes set in a medieval environment. It tells a story of history, culture, art, and sensuality. Each image is imbued with Robin Yongs love for the masquerade and its actors: smiles or frowns on the masks, sparks in the eyes of his models, textures, colors, and minute details in a costume.
Through the photographs presented in Beginning in Venice, the beauty and romance of Venice comes alive.

Foreword - Jim Zuckerman
Some photographers, from the very beginning of their photographic pursuits, innately have a great eye for composition and color and for capturing remarkable moments that other people miss entirely Robin has that kind of vision. Robin participated in a photo workshop in Venice, Italy I conducted in February, 2014, and when he began showing me his pictures I was immediately impressed with his unique way of seeing. He chose daring perspectives, dynamic lighting, and artistic compositions such that the lines and shapes of the various elements fit perfectly together. His pictures of Carnivale, this wonderful event of outrageous costumes set in a medieval environment, tell a story of history, culture, art, and sensuality.
Looking at Carnivale through Robin’s eyes is a special treat. He uses selective focus as a way to direct our attention where he wants it,
