    Frustration the Devil

How frustration can be more dangerous

    Anger

    Failing in achieving your goals

Termites! (usually known as demak in Hindi)

    What are they?

I guess all have heard the story of the ant and the elephant; the story is all about power, where the elephant has a very proud attitude just because of his huge body and the ant is taken as a small helpless creature which can be smashed, but when the ant gets into the nose of the elephant, the elephant comes to know what that power actually means.

Now what does this story have to do with termites? Just continue and you will get the answer on your own at the end of this book.

    Termites—the silent destroyers

Twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week, they’ll eat, every single second, if left ignored and will completely destroy things which may seem to look fine from outside.

We humans also have such termites in us and we are not aware of them, or it will sound good if I say that we do know the fact, still we are ignoring them just because we think that these termites are too small to destroy a human body. Think about all the results in your life positively or negatively, but I’m sure you will always find these human monsters behind them. What are these termites known as in the human body?

These dangerous termites in a human body are known by name as frustration, ego, jealousy, depression, anger—very small but with the capacity to finish you completely.

How human termites can be compared to actual termites

Here I would like to try explaining it with a very live example: whenever I look at healthy, happy, and successful people, I can’t stop myself thinking, are they really what they look like? I doubt it because we cannot judge someone with a persona (a mask) on. For me, they are just like a sack filled with stuff, tied up neatly, but when you lift it up, you come to know about its weight. The sack is just the covering; so are we with a heavy persona wrapped around the stuff in us.

You want to carry some stones; you try to fit them all and take them in one go. You feel they are too heavy to be carried together. Now the second option is that you remove some stones and make the weight light; this becomes an easy task for you, so was the task really hard? No, the task was not hard but what was required here was reducing the weight; same are the human termites hidden deep inside our bodies, making our lives heavy and uneasy to drag. Though our outer appearance makes us shine, the reality is we know we are wearing a persona. These termites are ruling our bodies, and if we don’t try to eliminate them from ourselves, then we are killing ourselves with our own hands.

Take me as your train driver, who’s going to take you for a visit to the world of these human termites.

    The first halt is frustration.

One of the most dangerous termites: What is frustration?

I believe that it is the output of unhappiness when we fail to do things and do not get the same as our expectation; that is the time when this monster enters us and we, without knowing, easily fall in its grip. Remember

Life is too short to sit around dwelling in unhappiness, and being miserable.

Every day is a joyous occasion, be sure to allow yourself to live like it.

    Unknown

It was a Sunday and I was enjoying my day. I think it was two in the afternoon; when I was resting, I heard the doorbell. I got up and went to the gate to see who was there. I saw a beggar at the gate who looked quite healthy. I gave him money with a good shout and told him, ‘Never come in the afternoon, disturbing people,’ then he took the money and, with a very sad face, left. I saw his sad face and realized that my behaviour was too rude towards him, as I never behaved in such a way ever. I knew something was there which made me to behave so, but what?

Behaving against my nature was very surprising for me. A question was killing me from inside: what was the reason for this action of mine? I was feeling very sad because I had never insulted anyone in my life before. Actually what I did was an action just because of the frustration I had with my whole day’s work with no positive result.

I was not aware about the change in me until my nephew who came to spend his summer vacation with us said, ‘Aunty, you were the most loving among all but now you are the most dirtiest one because you always shout and get irritated.’ Yeah, it was true I was doing the same, but why?

When it overwhelmed my nerves and I felt that I was unable to find the answer for this question, I decided to talk about this with one of my friends. I just told her whatever I felt and burst out with a hell of a lot of questions; she listened patiently and said, ‘I would love to answer all your questions, but before that, you have to listen to something I would like to share with you about myself, will you?’

    ‘Sure, I would love to.’

Hearing me, she said, ‘My condition is same as yours, look at me. I was a very jolly person full of life but now I even feel it’s hard to smile. Reason? My married life—it must be sounding funny but it’s true. At the start, everything was moving smoothly, we worked together, we enjoyed being with each other and both of us understood our responsibilities and we even proved ourselves up to the mark, but soon, unwanted tensions and depressions started giving knocks. As we all are sailing in the same boat, we can’t skip them, so even we fell in its clutches. All small and big reasons started digging holes in our hearts and we started filling these holes with the worst mud ever anyone would like to use, called frustration.

‘Now this frustration started playing its role, the result was that my work never pleased him, he always tried to find out ways to let me down. I also became the same: always complaining and comparing.

‘Something that was killing me from inside was, after doing all I could do to please all the people connected to us, still I never got any praise or a pat on the back—why? This why danced twenty-four hours inside me, and soon I started getting irritated with myself and this irritation affected my whole life. In place of finding solutions for the problems, we were just dancing in the hands of this dangerous demon, and then one day when I was reading a book, something I read helped me out of this condition, which made
