The Good, the Bad, the Truth - S. Marie Silva
CHAPTER ONE
The Beginning
We didn’t have the perfect love story; there wasn’t birds singing, rainbows or the romantic stuff you see on TV. As a little girl, I wanted to be a successful woman, marry Prince Charming and have 3 to 4 beautiful kids. Well life didn’t quite work out that way, and you know what, I’m glad that it didn’t.
In an instant, my life changed for the worse, at the age of 24, I became a widow and a single mother. My husband of 18 months died in a car accident, and here is the good, the bad, and the truth about being a young widow.
August, 2010
I just broke up with my no good boyfriend and was looking for a new adventure. I believe in love at first sight, but when I saw Alex for the second time, I honestly didn’t think anything of it. Yes, I said SECOND time.
I actually met Alex for the first time when he was visiting his half siblings who happen to attend the same church as me. His brother, Tim*, introduced Alex to all of us. He was that ‘tall, dark and handsome’ type and boy, he had hair for days. I thought that he was cute but at the time I met him, I was in a relationship. He wasn’t very talkative, so I just figured that he wasn’t interested nor not paying attention. After meeting him at church, I didn’t see him after that. We just went on with each other’s lives. At this point, I didn’t think that I would see him again.
Four years later I was working in retail. I had a meeting with my supervisor that day, so I had to go into the store. I got out of my car and started walking towards the store. I get closer to the doors and there he was. He looked as handsome as I’d seen him years ago. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? I never thought that I a million years, that I would see Alex again after our initial meeting at church years ago. He cut all his long pretty hair off and I felt like he got taller too. He was walking out of the store with his brother Tim. We said hellos to each other and made small conversation and went about out day.
My cousin, Danielle* was on town this week so we decided that we wanted to go out to the club. We pick up my friend Nicole* and made our way to the city. Well by fate, we happen to be at the same club as Alex and Tim. As my girls and I walk, there he is. Standing 6 feet tall, black shirt fitting on him like a glove where you can see each and every crevice of his chiseled muscles and even though there wasn’t any light inside, he brightened up the place. We said ‘hi’ to the guys and made our way to the dance floor. Just like the movies, he came over and asked if I wanted to dance. Blushing and in shock, I nodded my head and he led me an empty place on the dance floor. I don’t want to sound cliché but dancing with him, nothing else mattered and no one existed but us too. This one night would be the beginning of our future. It was 2 o’clock in the morning and the club was closing. He asked me for my number and I asked him for his. Driving home, the girls and I were teasing me in the car talking about him.
Nicole, what about the guy you were dancing with?
Oh my gosh. I was trying to get away from him. He wasn’t even that cute!
She said in horror
We just started laughing. I remember when I got home that I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I didn’t want to seem desperate (as every woman feels once in their lifetime) so I waited a day to text him. We hit it off instantly. We started to get to know each other and then he asked me on a date. Being 18 and with my cousin in town, this became a group date.
We decided to go to the movie theater in town. It wasn’t as romantic as some may think. We weren’t holding hands, making out, hands suddenly touching when grabbing for popcorn. I was just happy to be in his presence. Once the movie was over, we headed outside and this story being cliché, he asked me for a kiss. I kissed him, and no sparks, no birds singing, but I had butterflies for days. I couldn’t stop smiling. From that point on, I knew he was a keeper. We would spend all night talking to each other on the phone. This
