I should have been more alert
but this,
my wooded path, my private little trail,
divided.
A silver-white web
thick as barn rope and a span
the breath of spread eagle wings.
Now captive in its grasp,
the sticky bands stretch and tighten
round my head and chest.
Netted! By this arachnid commando.
I know the type,
large, yellow and black
with a garden variety arrogance.
I saw you yesterday,
on the side of the path,
dangling from a poplar leaf
on one near invisible thread,
looking like gaudy jewelry.
Was it what I said,
that I thought your abdomen
