Shonna West is a native of New Orleans. She is a licensed cosmetologist and a full time student who loves to write poetry in her spare time. She was inspired to write her first poetry book in 2011 titled Reflections of Love and Life Through The Eyes of A Woman. Seven years later she was inspired to write her second book in hopes of inspiring everyone who reads it.

This book is dedicated to my father who showed me the value of hard work, my grandmother who taught me how to pray, my husband, who’s loyalty is unmatched, and my daughter who is not only my greatest accomplishment, but also my greatest inspiration. These four people played a major part in my growth. I am a better daughter, woman, wife and mother because of them…
My truth defines my very being. I was born into it, I have lived it, and I will die with it. It has inspired me to be who I have become, and I hope that it inspires others. It has hurt me, and it has also healed me. I will never forget it, nor do I regret it. It has shaped my reality, and I stand strong in it because I know that it has set me free.
I faced many struggles and I am not ashamed of the path I took to get here. I learned a long time ago to trust God. He has tested my faith on many occasions and sometimes I let him down. I was stubborn far too many times and I learned many hard lessons because of it. I often look back on my life and smile because I know what I’ve been through, and I know that I am a stronger woman than I was just 2 years ago. I am constantly growing mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I will continue to learn, and I will continue to grow.
