Accessories are a universal language that bridges age, language, religion, creed, and any other superficial label we apply to one another. Visit a foreign country wearing a unique pair of sunglasses or an eye-catching scarf, and you will almost certainly find an admirer who suddenly speaks the same language as you: the language of appreciation. In the span of a single afternoon while working on this book, I met a new friend thanks to our mutual admiration of one another’s scarves, I gained a new perspective with someone while we bonded over our watches, and I ended up talking about God with a stranger after his compliment of my shoes sparked a conversation.
