      On November 25, the Hawaiian island of Oahu was peaceful. Tourists were sunbathing on the beaches, and residents were going about their business.

      The four types of battleships present in Pearl Harbor that afternoon were the standard-type, the Maryland, the Oklahoma, the Tennessee, and the Arizona. The last was the flagship of Rear Admiral Isaac Kidd’s Battleship Division One.

      The ships were docked in Pearl Harbor, and the sailors went ashore to enjoy their weekend liberty.

      The majority of the sailors would head to downtown Honolulu to find entertainment and girls. The bars were full of Navy men, and the cinemas showed movies exclusively about the British Royal Navy.

      On liberty, Honolulu’s red light district was visited by many sailors. The Cinderella hour was around midnight, and the Shore Patrol made their usual sweep through the downtown to police up any inebriated or disheveled personnel.
