The couple was shot dead in their home. Their rings were taken, and their wallets and credit cards were stolen. They were covered in blankets, and their blood was seeping through the two layers.

George Price, a captain in the U. S. Air Force, was separated from his family by about 115 miles. He tried to contact them, but couldn’t. Finally, he went to see if they were okay, but they weren’t home.

On June 2, George and his wife, Diana, went to visit Brian and Jeannie. They found the house empty, with no signs of forced entry. They heard noises coming from the backyard, and called the police.

When Joe Matise arrived, he told George and Diana that their parents were dead. The police, fire department, and news reporters all came soon after.

The house was left untouched, and the police waited for detectives to arrive. The crime scene was left under investigation through the night into the next day, Sunday, the sixteenth day of June.

The detectives arrived at the murder scene Saturday afternoon. They walked through the house, past the staircase, and into the family room, where they saw the bodies of Brian and Jeannie Legg, covered with blankets.

The police found three blankets in the family room, all heavily stained with blood. The male victim had his wallet taken from him, and the female had her purse emptied of valuables. They found a variety of receipts containing credit card numbers, and placed each item into an evidence bag.

After the dinner hour, Detective Ron Jones walked outside and began knocking on doors to canvass neighbors. He wanted to find out if anyone knew anything about the Leggs or if anything suspicious had been noticed within the last week.

George Price, the son, gave the names of his two sisters and his half brother, David. He couldn’t give David’s current address, but he knew he was supposed to be on a military base in Texas.

After the bodies were removed, the detectives continued their search for clues inside the Leggs’ home. They found a bullet fragment on the family room floor, behind the love seat where the victims had been seated, and a bullet under the carpet in the master bedroom.
