Chapter One
I Am Unique
Get up, Unique!
I hear my mothers faint voice say as I roll the other way.
Unique!
She says as she snatches the covers off and starts tickling me.
I go into a fit of giggles pushing her hands off me until she stops.
Bet you’ll get up next time!
She says as she giggles and leaves the room.
I sigh and look toward the window.
It’s rainy and dark outside.
I then turn toward the roof only to be met with the solar system me, my mom, and best friend Cynthia made last year.
Time to get dressed...
I mumble as I get up and throw on some clothes, then apply lipstick.
I grab my backpack and walk from my room, into the kitchen.
Your doughnut is on the coffee table.
My mom says as she adds creamer to her coffee.
Kay,
I say as I walk to the living room to collect my doughnut and walk to the door.
As I grab and twist the handle, my mom sprints over.
Bye Unique!
She says as she hugs me and I walk from the house.
Bye mom!
I say as I run up to my approaching bus.
I board it and there are the same 13 kids,
Hello Unique!
My bus driver says as she wraps me in a hug and pats my back.
I smile and walk to seat 9, where I sit everyday.
Across from me is Brian,
"Unique, I always wonder why she named you Unique, There’s nothing Unique about you." He says as a smirk sits on his lips.
Can you not?
I say as I turn to the window and the bus starts going.
You are such... A baby.
He says as I hear a loud click.
Did you just take a picture of me?
I say as I look at him.
Yep, hm... Who should I show it to...?
He mumbled to himself.
I try to get up but our bus driver makes a sharp turn onto another street.
Oo... How about, I pin it on the class board...
He says out loud as he goes back into his book.
Can you give that here!
I shout as I get up and walk over to him.
He looks up with a scared look.
I snatch the camera, then the picture and throw his camera back at him.
He wore a disheveled look on his face as he got his things and attempted to get up but the bus driver noticed and stomped on the break.
She then looked at me from her rear view mirror and winked.
I silently giggled as we started driving again.
After a bit longer we could see the school from a distance...
‘Jordan Middle School’
A big sign read as we pulled in and the bus started slowing down and eventually halted to a stop.
The clear bus doors slowly opened and everyone got up.
Have a good day!
I hear the bus driver shout at the excited children.
I then noticed I was the last person on to exit since I had been nice letting everyone in the back pass.
Then just as I got off.
Unique!
She says as I spin around on the concrete and face her.
Yeah?
I say.
Let me know if you have any more problems with Mr. O’Malley.
She aats.
Okay,
I responded.
Unique... You listen to me and you listen well... You are Unique, so if someone tells you otherwise you get in their face and say ‘I am Unique!’ Remember that!
She says as she turns forward and the doors close.
She then looks back and waves goodbye as she drives away.
I smiled and thought about what she said for a while.
Ring!
The bell went off.
I had completely forgotten, I ran to the doors and they were locked.
