Note From the Author
God put it on my heart to start writing this book earlier this year (2020). However, I had no idea how this book was going to be birthed. Finally, God gave me insight on what to write for one of the chapters. Still, after writing most of that chapter, I dealt with writer’s block. So, I left the book alone for a few months, and whenever I did try to start writing again, God would say, Don’t touch that book. I don’t want you writing my book in that spirit.
Though I did not fully understand, I had an idea of what it was that He meant. I was still struggling with some strongholds in my life. I was also dealing with a lot of issues in my heart.
God wanted to heal me and take me through deliverance first so that I would not be writing to you as a slave, but as a free woman. I am not perfect in any way, shape, nor form. However, my mind has been completely renewed, and God is constantly taking me through a process of sanctification.
When the murder of George Floyd happened this year, I broke down crying to the Lord. I sensed the Holy Spirit telling me to fast and pray for the nation of the United States. God showed me that Satan had a red dot on the foreheads of many American citizens, and he was just waiting for an opportune time to squeeze the trigger. I was obedient to the Lord and did what He asked. I had broken down in tears during prayer because I had confessed to Him that I was weak and was not strong enough to pray and fast for an entire nation. This was not completely true because Christ has given us the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all power of the adversary (Luke 10:19). However, the truth was that my prayer life was weak.
After this confession, God started to change my heart and show me that I could be and am called to be a warrior for the Kingdom. Whenever I would begin to whine during the process, He would tell me things like, Get up
or Stop.
He would even say, Listen, I’m not raising a wimp.
God started keeping me up late at night. He had me worshiping Him and praying more and more, as well as learning certain verses and committing them to memory; these were warrior verses such as Hebrews 4:12 and Revelation 12:11. He even allowed me to be attacked in my sleep and my dreams. I realized that my Father was not babying me anymore. He would say to me, I am training you to be a warrior.
I did not understand why at first, and I would ask Him in many ways when this big war that I was supposed to fight was going to happen. But once He had finally allowed me to write this book in its entirety, I understood. The enemy attacked me in so many ways when I was writing this book. From intrusive thoughts intended to keep me bound to my past, to stomachaches, cramps, attacks during my sleep, and massive fatigue. It became more and more clear to me what my Father had been preparing me for. There was even a period when my laptop would not turn on, and I had to use my phone. All of these were attacks from the adversary; these were his attempts to discourage me.
But, because God taught me about warfare, I understood warfare. When I would be confused about some of the issues that I would face, typically when my stomach would ache, God would remind me again that it was warfare. I rejoiced in the Lord because I felt honored to go to war for Him.
This entire book is about spiritual warfare. The purpose of this book is to help and encourage believers not to be passive in their walks with Christ. God wants us to be active warriors for His Kingdom against the darkness of this world. When playing chess, to become a grandmaster, one must study the game, their opponent, and think several steps ahead of their opponent. This is the same regarding spiritual warfare, our fight against Satan, and our walk with God. Writing this book has taught me a lot and has truly blessed my life. I pray that it does the same for you as you read it. With that said, thank you for reading this book, and I hope it aids in your spiritual growth as a believer in Jesus Christ.
Chapter 1
The Game
Chess, as we all know, is a game of strategy. Those who truly understand the game know only fools or players who lack the skill, knowledge, and wisdom of playing the game make moves at random. In chess, moves must be made with intention and purpose. Furthermore, the moves should all be a part of one great and well-thought-out strategy. Failure to play the game with this approach will result in a humiliating loss, especially against a grandmaster.
According to thechessworld.com, there are five typical types of chess players:
The Attack Maniac, the Passive Player, The Exchanger, The Strategist and the Perfectionist.
The Attack Maniac
This type of player plays the game with a zeal that 90%-95% of the time has no direction. They tend to haphazardly make moves that are mainly for shock value. For this type of player, the goal is to use the element of surprise to put a sudden amount of pressure on their opponent. The objective is to get the opponent to respond to their tactics and try to win the game. This kind of player is quite common in the world of chess.
The Passive Player
This type of player stays in their comfort zone during the game. Their objective is to take as many minimal risks in the game as possible; that is if they take any risks at all. This is another common type of player in chess and is the opposite of the type of player previously mentioned.
The Exchanger
This type of player takes almost every opportunity to exchange pieces with their opponent. Their agenda is to exchange their pieces until they either have a draw or a victory.
The Perfectionist
Now, it is a well-known fact that perfection is an unrealistic and unattainable goal. Yet, many of us con ourselves into believing that we can somehow make ourselves the exception to this rule and achieve the unachievable. That is the same for this type of player. They want the perfect move, the perfect game, and ultimately, the perfect win. These types of players tend to over-analyze simple moves and take prudence and caution to an unnecessary level, causing the game
