About this ebook

I've written this book with stories of fear, pain, unforgiveness, and heartbreak. I've reached into the hearts of many that was struggling to hold on, fighting for their lives, and hoping for change. In this book you will see how God answers prayers, from the smallest prayer, to the greatest. He is faithful, and is near to the broken hearted. Trust Him with your stories, because He's at the end.

When the term 'I HEARD' is used in a sentence, most people think it's gossip. Is It?

I Heard - Kim Shell Cox

    THE PRODIGAL ONE

    Chapter 1

    (Luke 15:11-19)

The Parable of the lost son, who said to his father, Give me the share of my inheritance I have coming to me. So, the father distributed the assets between his two sons. The younger son packed his things and traveled to a distant country, where he spent his entire inheritance on foolish living. There was a famine in that country, and he had nothing left. He had to work and feed pigs because no one gave him anything.

It was so bad that the pig’s slop looked good... Then he came to himself, and he thought, ‘My father's servants eat better than this. I'll tell my father how sorry I am, that I made a mistake, I was foolish, I've sinned against Heaven, and in his sight, I'll tell him I'm not worthy to be called your son, I'll work as a servant.’

It's funny how we end up, right back where we started, in the arms of the Father who loves us, never saying I told you so, just rejoicing to have you home. The Prodigal son is a story of restoration, how God welcomes back His children who have nothing to offer but desperation.

    I HEARD. . . . .

A young man played the organ for his father's church. He was a skilled organist who had been playing since he was five years old. His dad would spend hours teaching him to play the piano, the organ, and the guitar. They would laugh and make up funny songs as the lessons went on into the late evening.

The son would look up at his dad while he sang those funny songs, with the biggest smile on his face. He was so proud of his dad, and they had a special bond.

It was getting late, and the young boy's mom said, That's enough practicing for the night; it's time for bed. The boy would jump on his dad's back, Can you read me a story, dad? Please. Of course, I'll read to you, son, he said, then glanced at his wife. The man loved spending time with his son as much as the boy did. This went on for years.

The young man is now 17 years old. He lives with his mom, dad, grandfather, and his 15- year-old sister, who sang so beautifully that her mother would tell her, You have the voice of an angel. The young man played the piano every Sunday while his sister sang. You can see the proud look on their father's face as he got up to preach.

One Sunday evening, the young man's grandfather was in the family room listening to some music that sounded nothing like the music he plays on Sundays. The young man was in the kitchen, putting away the dishes when he heard the music. He began to tap his feet to the beat and began to dance around the kitchen.

He ran into the family room, dancing and snapping his fingers. I love this music. What is it? The grandfather replied, A little something we call Rhythm and Blues. His grandfather was also a skilled musician; he played the piano, drums, bass guitar, and saxophone. He also taught the boy's father to play the piano. The young man said, WOW, I love it. From then on, he began to listen to all types of music, Jazz, Blues, Hip Hop, Pop, you name it, he probably heard it. Suddenly church music was not all that
