To my grandchildren Rafael, Mariana, Susana, Aurora and Alan.
Thank you for asking me to tell you stories.
Your imagination was my inspiration.
You made this a wonderful experience for me.
To my mother who cheered me up not only to tell the stories but to write them down.
To my Sister Eva Esther and my brother in law Ernie, for their invaluable help in translating the stories to English.
Malika
Close your eyes and imagine a very large forest full of trees and vegetation and if you follow the river, you reach its magical part. Here the animals are different: there are lilac elephants, blue giraffes, white tigers, green deer and multicolored rabbits.
This story is about a family of rabbits: Daddy and Mommy rabbits with 5 bunnies, all very cute and fluffy and of different colors. Yellow, Orange, Pink, Sky Blue and the smallest of all Red; she is a sensitive and dreamy bunny with very blue eyes and a big heart. Her name is Malika.
—Malika, where are you?- Her brothers asked, and as usual, she was observing the forest and dreaming.
—Here I am, Malika said-, what do you want?
—Come, let’s play hide-and-seek.
But Malika prefers to walk through the forest, observe the other animals and dream...
One day when she was walking along the river, she heard some very pretty music and following the sound, she walked away from the places she often visited, until she reached a clearing and saw a girl dancing.
—Oh!, how beautiful that girl dances-
She contemplated her for a long while, until she decided to get closer.
—Hello- Malika said.
The girl turned looking when she heard the greeting, but she saw no one.
—How curious, I would swear I heard someone say hello to me- she said to herself.
Malika replied:
—Yes, it was me, down here, can you see me? I am red with blue eyes.
When she looked-down she saw a beautiful red bunny.
—You greeted me? But rabbits do not talk.
—Of course we do, we are in the Magic Forest, and everyone here can talk. My name is Malika.
—Wow, wow, this is wonderful, nice to meet you Malika, I am Susana.
—Where did you learn to dance? I have been watching you, and I love the way you dance.
—Well, I take ballet classes at the Ballet School and I really enjoy it.
—And, could you teach me? I would love to dance like you do.
—Of course, Susana said, if you want I can come every afternoon around this time and teach you.
—For real? -Malika said-, it would be wonderful, can we start tomorrow?
—Yes, see you tomorrow, I am just going to ask you that if you really want to learn you have to be committed, no absences and don´t get desperate, because to be a good ballet dancer takes a lot of time.
—Of course, it is my dream come true, I will be here every day -Malika promised.
And from the following day, for many days, Malika went to her ballet classes with Susana. Malika applied herself and always rehearsed so much that very soon she began to dance accompanied by Classical Music, as Susana called it, Music by authors like Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Mozart. She loved to listen to it and dance to the beat of this wonderful music.
Her brothers no longer invited her to play, since Malika always said
