    About the Author

For my children and my grandchildren

    Love,

    Pappy

Artwork is by my talented daughter-in-law, Lauren.

The Four Mice in the Big Wooden Shoe

Four little mice decided to do something new,

So they built a boat out of an old wooden shoe.

And they added some cabins, a mast, and some sails,

They built an anchor out of old bent up nails.

They added halyards and rigging and lines and sheets,

And lockers topside to keep everything neat!

They added a motor from an old rusty toy car,

And it ran on a battery they kept in a jar.

They made a ship's wheel out of a little tree trunk,

And inside each cabin built a comfy little bunk.

They added life jackets made of old pieces of foam,

And a little compass they found in a box made of chrome.

They added a galley where they kept their food and their drink,

It had a little icebox, a stove, and a sink.

They added plates and saucers and cups and bowls,

Knives and forks and little handholds.

They added a head in case they had to pee!

For if not in the head they'd have to pee in the sea!

They added a main cabin, with benches and lockers and a table with chairs,

And to get to it from above you went down cute little stairs!

They added little lanterns that winked in the night,

Keeping the main cabin all cheery and bright.

Starboard had a green light, port had a red,

And the masthead and stern had lights that were white lights instead!

To make the boat seaworthy they added a keel!

Now they could tighten the sails and let the boat heel!

They added charts of the oceans, the seas, and the stars!

And held their books in the shelves with removable bars!

They took turns being captain, first mate and swab,

But no matter their title they did a wonderful job!

And they sailed the world through all kinds of weather,

And the four little mice were very happy together.

    The Mouse without a Tail

    A funny-looking mouse moved to Mouse-town .

And at first he got funny looks whenever he walked around.

For this mouse was a very strange sight.

Something about him just wasn't right.

He was rounder than most of them, and a bit longer front to back.

And had reddish fur instead of white or gray or black.

But he was friendly and always smiled,

A nice smile that seemed to brighten their day a little while.

And the other mice in mouse-town,

Were always nice, and kind, and never made an unfriendly sound.

They just accepted the odd-looking mouse,

And helped him find a cozy little house.

    As time went
