Fold Unsealed - Edwidge B.Roumer
Burning Candle
Dim flame of hope
That flickers in the dark
Far window in the deepest night,
Burn slow, burn long
To carry each uttered prayer
On imperceptible rays
Linking us to the heavens.
Faint light of trust
That dances on the tabletop
In a thousand flittering steps,
Burn strong, burn low
To consume each little tear,
To absorb each little hurt
With every blink and every sway.
Burning candle of faith,
Companion of frightful nights,
Burn steady, burn hot,
Burn until you warm my heart,
And in a whisper,
Murmur my secrets in the wind
Like an angel’s breath in God’s ear.
The Angel
The angel is alarmed by the many tears
Shed in one breath.
He sits at the foot of the bed,
In the shadows of the night,
Saddened by our feelings of defeat.
He comes into our dreams to comfort our soul.
He brings brief moments of relief,
Transforming himself into
What our heart desires most.
He becomes the lover we long for,
The companion we ache for,
The faithful friend who understands,
The protector and the provider.
He loves with all his might
In a heavenly embrace.
The angel brings us images
Of splendor and ecstasy
In a harmonious world of constant symphony.
He is the beauty that transcends,
He is the evanescent fluid
That penetrates and permeates,
He is the glimpse of light
In the corner of our eyes,
The one who gives us hope
In the midst of chaos.
Times Such as These
It’s at times such as these
That a pinch in my heart
Reminds me that I’m not healed,
That I can once again
Succumb to the darkness
And surrender to the void
That hides within me.
It’s at times such as these
That I look around for a gentle touch,
For a hand to hold me,
For a shoulder to support me,
And a smile to encourage me;
But as I look around
Upon those dear to me,
I see them hurrying to live their lives,
Too busy to notice my pain,
Absorbed by their own burdens.
It’s at times such as these
That I realize how alone we are
Within ourselves and with each other.
As loneliness pervades my body
And penetrates my soul,
Once more I reach out
Beyond the clouds
To the
