Tall Tales From The Shadows Of The Great Divide

About this ebook
This book is a collection of written ballads as a small poetic tribute to the natural beauty that surrounds us.
From the author's desk, "In 1969 three friends and I booked a big-game hunt with a guide and outfitter in Montana. This hunting area lay astraddle the Continental Divide in the Bob Marshal Wilderness. None of us had ever been that far West. From the outfitter's ranch, it was two days in on horseback. We rode through flower-covered meadows, riparian valleys with crystal clear streams, verdant timber, unbelievable rock formations, and towering canyon walls. I was instantly addicted to Mother Nature's artistry. Two years later, I packed up the family, left Ohio, and headed West."

Seven Cities of Cibola
They are out there somewhere lost cities of gold
Go there and find them Coronado was told
There in the canyons where vistas are few
Perched high on the mesas hidden from view
Their glimmering beauty a sight to behold
Go there and find them those cities of gold
Oriabi and Hano in legends they stand
Out there in the desert lost in the sand
Mashongnavi and Walpi rare secrets they hold
Coronado was certain they were hammered of gold
Shumopavl and Slchumovi their warriors so few
Shupalovo the jewel is waiting there too
Seven cities of Cibola with treasures untold
For Coronado the dream of glistening gold
Winds of the wastelands his soldiers defied
Through cactus and sagebrush with water denied
Day after day big wagon wheels rolled
As they marched ever northward in search of gold
A message from couriers far in advance
Brought word of a city discovered by chance
The sun’s setting rays cast an aura of gold
On a far distant pueblo oldest of old
With ropes and ladder tall ramparts ascended
But finding no treasure Coronado lamented
City after city the searchers were bold
But visions diminished as the truth did unfold
Coronado was somber his blood running cold
For in all of Cibola there was no yellow gold
Vermillion Desert
Have you ever been to Vermillion Desert
