Stroke: Prevention and Understanding
()
About this ebook
I was fifty-six when I had the stroke. It was the month of May, and that was the best month in my practice. My stroke was preventable, but I was too busy making money. It was too late to do anything but suffer. After I retired and sold my urgent cares, I decided to write a book on stroke prevention. I read about forty books on stroke and spent three years thinking what to write. I wrote a booklet on stroke prevention. It was well liked but had no pictures. Everybody wanted me to add pictures, so I added pictures. Those are my original pictures. To my surprise, they turned out so good there is nothing in published literature to match with them.
The book is written so that it is very easy to read and understand. The pictures are self-explanatory. I think I have produced a masterpiece, and I hope people will benefit from it and prevent strokes. Everybody over age fifty-one should read my book and pay attention to stroke prevention. Nobody is immune to stroke.

Prevention of Stroke
Preface
In the last twenty-five years, there has been a lot of emphasis on prevention of heart disease and heart attacks with definite improvements. More people are exercising and paying attention to their diet. Cholesterol-lowering drugs have stretched the life expectancy. All these things have had a collateral beneficial effect on stroke. We need to stress the stroke prevention more than has been done, and it will be beneficial for preventing the coronary artery disease and heart attacks.
I was a busy surgeon with a successful practice. I had worked hard during my residency to become a good surgeon. When I was a third-year surgical resident, I passed the Royal College of Surgeons (Canada) exam (highest surgical qualification in Canada) and one year later the American Board of Surgery. Subsequently I became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
One fine morning I had five surgeries scheduled and had a stroke. In a few seconds, my expertise as a surgeon ended. All the hard work, success, and glory were gone. I lay in ICU, not knowing whether I was going to live or die. My stroke was preventable, but I did not pay attention. I had intermittent high blood pressure and type II diabetes, but I thought I was invincible and did not need to go to a doctor. I was flat on the floor, and all I could do was cry and feel sorry for myself.
The commonest cause for
