    August 2006—it seemed like any other Sunday evening, but as is often the case, God was opening the book on a new, exciting, and beneficial relationship with two people who, on that evening, wandered into Delaware Bible Church.

    God had brought Dwight and Kimra into my sphere of acquaintances, and what transpired in the sixteen years that followed was, without a doubt, a friendship that is filled with repeated evidences of the Lord's grace and goodness.

    Until my retirement in 2013, I had the privilege of being Dwight and Kimra's pastor. It was within that context that I witnessed God at work in their lives. The external evidences included the time of their dating, premarital counseling, and officiating at their wedding. It also included watching them gain greater financial freedom that enabled them to first rent and then purchase their first home. In both the rental and the purchased home, I was invited to gather with them and other family and friends to pray a prayer of dedication over the home that God had provided for them.

    The internal evidences included a growing commitment to the Lord as seen in their character, their service, and their devotion for one another and family members. Though external, Dwight's growing faith and commitment were apparent at his baptism, which I was honored to perform.

    On April 15, 2021, God chose to call Dwight home to heaven! Kimra has chosen to record the path that Dwight's passing has brought. In it one finds reality rather than pious platitudes. But in addition to reality, one finds evidence of our God, who is faithful at all times and whose faithfulness is most evident during the deepest valleys of life. This truth itself has the potential of being yet another pious platitude. What the reader finds in Kimra's account is one who chooses to lean into the truth of God found in his Word and, in so doing, experiences the comfort, faithfulness, and love of God.

    What follows is an extremely practical, honest, and scriptural record of Kimra's journey through grief. It is a gripping testimony of a loving Abba (Father) who is true to his promise to never leave or forsake and who is more than sufficient to be a comforter to all who will come to him.

    For my loving husband, Dwight, who gave me sixteen years of love, joy, laughter, and support and whose passing is the reason I wrote this book.

    For my six children and their better halves, thank you for being with me every step of the way and for my sixteen grandbabies who bring me laughter and love.

    For my sweet Aunt Nancy who has been a dedicated prayer warrior for me as I have walked this journey and wrote this book.
