- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The juvenile fiction book, In the Nick of Time, displays an eye-opening and life-changing experience for a self-centered boy. It subtly exudes joy, hope, love, and faith.Nick Saint’s thoughts are unconstructive and fairly selfish in the beginning of this story. His actions aren’t exactly respectful, to the dismay of his mother. But things begin to change when he receives a letter meant for Santa. He soon discovers an important and unexpected gift—The gift of giving and caring for others. The title is smart, the dialogue is realistic, and the illustrations are colorful and fun. What I liked:I love that the characters in this story are diverse—in both race and economic standing. Nick is surprised to discover that someone at his school isn’t as fortunate as he is. And most importantly, he does something about it! Nick’s transformation from self-absorbed to compassionate is heartwarming and satisfying. What I wanted:The story isn’t lacking in any way. Young people are often in a “me zone” where they want to satisfy their own needs and wants. Nick’s story serves as an example to readers that kindness toward others ultimately serves our own hearts as well.Overall:This story holds many important lessons without having a tedious or “preachy” tone. Nick’s growth throughout this story is inspiring and illuminating, leaving you feeling grateful and full when the story ends.I received a complimentary copy of this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a fantastic read for Christmas. I think it is a great read for all ages. I hope this will make many parents think as they read this to their children. There are great illustrations and the story made me cry. I loved the ideas that this will give everyone who reads it. I received a copy of this book from ireadbooktours for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"Some people seem to thing that Christmas is all about what you can get. But you and I know that this season means to give, to hope, and to love without regret."Nick Saint is a very selfish boy until a letter addressed to Saint Nick is mistakenly left at his house and he is shown a world that he never knew existed. Someone named Cooper E. asks Santa to help his mom find a job so that they can have a place to live and his little brother can have a truck for Christmas. Suddenly, Nick gets a glimpse of the real world where people are homeless, children are hungry, and luxuries are non-existent. He is also reminded what Christmas should truly be: a time for giving and for sharing. In the Nick of Time is a book that children will enjoy and parents will love. The colorful illustrations make it fun and appealing for young people and the strong focus on helping and serving others is especially relevant during the holiday season. In the Nick of Time is perfect for reading as a family and I am anxious to share it with my young granddaughter.I received a complimentary copy of this book via IRead Book Tours but there was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Never before had Nick Saint considered the anomaly of his name, until one day he got a letter in the mail addressed to Saint Nick. At first furious, his wise mother suggested he "take a different path" with his emotions. This is a children's book with a much needed message. Although the writing isn't the greatest, the message makes up for any lack in grammatical efficiency. It is truly a book needed i homes and classrooms. Even better...It has a Christmas theme!Illustrator, Charlene Mosley, has created colorful, cartoon-like, simple illustrations which are eye-catching and aids in keeping very young children's interest.*This book was gifted me with no pressure for a positive review.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In the Nick of Time, it is about learning the meaning of Christmas. This book brings home that meaning though a little boy. There a letter then comes to him by mistake but will he learn that there are more things to be thankful and show kindness. There is a boy who just wants a toy for his little brother and a job for his mom and nothing for himself. Will Nick figure it out that there are more important things rather than what he wants. You know, giving is better than receiving. Children can learn this through his book and the meaning of Christmas. Helping out your neighbors. The story is done well. The pictures sure do tell the meaning. The plot of the story has what children need to learn but also shows kindness. Not everybody is the same and this book shows that to children through this book in a different way. Will Nick be in time to help Santa?
