About this ebook

Nothing ever happened around Aiden's Loch, or the rural town of River-Fall. Though, unbeknownst to the human inhabitants of this quaint cadre, a hidden community of alter-dimensional beings, known as Roji and nayaps, live among them. The little town is teeming with all sorts of other-dimensional beings, who are stuck there, and likewise plastered to the routines of this realm, the third-dimension.

Jason Cole is a regular teen, a senior in his last semester. The biggest headaches he’d ever had to grapple with fell within the spheres of social status and friendships on one hand, and graduating on the other. However, in a precipitous run of events, Jason was thrust into the next dimension, only to no sooner be cast back down to earth. It was clear to the young lad that he lived a trapped existence, a caged animal in a reality that he once called home. Jason becomes obsessed with finding his way back to the fourth dimension, and if possible even beyond.

I hope to show the universal humanity inherent in all of us. There's more that we as humans have in common with one another than the differences that sometimes pit us against each other. Through stories, I hope to highlight a few of those commonalities. Love conquers all.

The air was unforgiving. The thick, somber black clouds up above were too robust to allow as much as a single ray of sunlight through. Jason clung onto his kaki coat. He’d made sure to have its collar popped, turning it into a face mask that he’d so resourcefully wielded.

Sup Jay? Car’s in the shop?

Startled, Jason quickly retracted his collar-gripping hand, at first impetuously, before succumbing to the wiles of his meticulously constructed, cool alter-ego, and slowly tucking it into his pocket.

Hey Van. Nah, car’s fine. Jason retorted.

He slowed down enough for her to catch up.

That forged doctor’s note is gonna be the death of me. Jason calmly continued. So figured I get some exercise this morning… You good, though?

He nodded, maybe encouraging her to nod along to his question

It was their customary greeting, though. He went through the motions, easing swiftly into a delicate and much ambiguous hug.

Jason lived down the road from school, yet drove there and back every weekday.

I’m cool. I just couldn’t sleep last night. My stupid brother was up, wailing all night, testing the limits of my sanity. Freaking weirdo. In irritation, Vanessa turned her scrawny fingers into a waving ball, a solid fist, before promptly resuming her speech.

I swear… we’re all guinea pigs to him, stuck in that lab of a home.

Good to see that you’re in a good mood, Jason’s smirk was lazy, effortless, how old is he now? He asked, even though he really couldn’t care less how old Sam was.

Yea… Vanessa scoffed. He’s a whiny, fed up 80 year old man, stuck in a 3 year-old body is what he is.

You’re funny. He chuckled awkwardly, before promptly and nervously going on to ask.

Hey, so, Van, uhm, would your bro have driven you to losing enough of your shit that you forgot to do your history homework? Jason had coyly concluded, as his voice fluctuated between shrillness and his normalcy.

This isn’t math Jay, she bit back, we had to write a three paged paper, and I for a fact know that you know, for a fact, that history class is in 10 minutes, you goon! Every facet of her face was stiff, her nostrils, eyebrows, lips, heck; even the bridge on her nose had swollen stiff, replete with grimace-made wrinkles.

Woah, relax. I know we got history first… Why do you think I’m here early? Past the gate, still making their way through the school grounds to their homeroom class, Jason’s voice had gotten somewhat desperate.

He sounded almost as he used to, four years ago, when he’d first tried to convince her that they would make an outrageously mad-dope-couple. Those were different times, a time when the world, their world, had bestowed upon them lesser responsibilities, if any.

Look, Van, he pleaded, as much as he knew how, which was not much at all. If I fail one more history assignment, he lamented, then I’ll flunk the class, and I need to pass history to graduate.

It’s three pages, Jay. She snapped back. The warm feeling of butterflies that had, for only just a moment, filled her gut, would just as soon dissipate, giving way to a facial expression that much bespoke her disappointment in her choice of boys, above all else.

I know. I know…My mother ate my homework, ok? Jason mocked.

Ok. Chill. I get it. Enough with the dagger eyes already. Look, I’ll talk to Carter. I’m sure if I showed him that I actually know my crap, then he’d maybe give me a one day extension. So, let me read what you got…just to seem like I actually know something…I forgot to pay Johnny to do my essay. Fuck me, right? The lanky youth rumbled on, as the pair now walked at Vanessa’s brisk pace.

Yea, yea, your life is so awful. I want it back in two minutes. I hope you’re a fast reader. The much anticipated capitulation was still a surprise to Jay. He was mute for a moment.

You’re the best. The bright eyed lad burst out of the seams, clapping his hands together, bombastically. The eager, child-like, has-been of a jock had almost shed a tear from the joy, like the grateful Charlie, left to roam the chocolate factory.

Vanessa ridded her bag of books. If only her ex could likewise be chucked into a locker for the rest of the day, she contemplated. Van wouldn’t dare tell Tiffany about her charity to Jason. Vanessa was supposed to work on keeping up her guard. She’d promised Tiffany that Jay’s crooked smile, the large drooping eyes that he’d tailor-made for her, would hold no more sway over her. I was going strong for almost a month there…screw you, Jay.

It wasn’t all bad that day. The meddlesome four were seated in the empty bleachers, soaking in the outdoorsy, behind the school. Jay, Vince, Chuck, and Drew didn’t need to stay at arm’s length from one another anymore. A more conducive weather pattern had seemingly blossomed from the dreary grayness of that morning. It was smiles all around camp. What’s more, Jason was lucky that Mr. Carter still favored him, although, now, it felt more like pity than favoritism. It took an injury, whether real or not, to pry Jason from the tight
