Born Again Taking Basic Baby Steps - Clairene Terry

    Introduction

Welcome my brothers and sisters into the kingdom of God! You have just taken a big step that will last you for all eternity. When I was first baptized and received Jesus as my Lord, in the late seventies, I didn’t know it was called being born again. At that time, it was not made clear to me what my next steps should be. It appeared that I was on my own, and because of that missed step of not knowing what to do, I remained in the world as if nothing had changed. It was September 2014 when I rededicated my life to my Lord Jesus Christ, and now I am in the world but not of the world. I’m no longer blind as I once were and living as if nothing had changed, because something did change, I became a new creation in Jesus Christ. Amen!

The purpose for writing this book is to help provide a basic understanding of what it means to be born again, thus preventing the feeling of being alone on this new and wonderful journey towards the glory of our Lord. After receiving Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, and with the help of God’s inspired Holy Bible (2 Timothy 3:16), you as a new believer will learn to receive and walk in your inheritance as a child of the Most High God and understand what it means to be joint heirs with our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:16–17).

Through faith, you have become a new creation (creature), starting a new life here on earth and for all eternity (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is through faith in our Lord God Jesus Christ that you will be able to receive the precious promises here on earth and for all eternity (2 Peter 1:4, 1 John 5:13).Through wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and the help of God’s Holy Spirit, it is hoped that this basic book will assist the now born-again believer and refresh the veteran believer of what it is to renew your mind (Romans 12:2) with undoing the world’s way of living and walking in the Spirit of God, as Jesus walked here on earth. As a new believer, you will understand who and what we are in Christ Jesus and why we are to imitate our Father in heaven, here on earth (Ephesians 5:1). As citizens of the kingdom of God (Philippians 3:20), we are given an inheritance of precious promises to live by here on earth (2 Peter 1:4). The plan of Satan is to rob us of our faith in this heritance and the right to live in those precious promises, but the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and to destroy (John 10:10). My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Through the master key (Faith), we are all overcomers and victorious children of the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 15:57). We are to walk in the finish works of our Lord Jesus Christ. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘it is finished!’ And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit (John 19:30). If you can read this book out loud to yourself, do so. It will be beneficial to your study and your faith (Romans 10:17).

Note: Born again and new believer may be used interchangeably throughout this book. (The person who has received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, believed it with their heart and confessed it with their mouth).

This book is based on these foundational scriptures:

•John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

•Matthew 6:33 but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

•2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

•Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Note: I would like to again highlight that this book is for the born-again believers of Jesus Christ. Jesus told the pharisee Nicodemus unless you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God. This does not mean you cannot read or even own this book, but it simply means you cannot receive anything that is promised to the born-again child of God that’s outlined in this book, unless you are His child. This book is not to judge or to condemn anyone, but only meant to highlight the truth. Amen.

•John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

To be born again is to outwardly confess you are a sinner and that Jesus Christ came and died on the cross for your sins and on the third day rose from the grave and is now sitting at the right hand of the Majesty, Father God Almighty. You must confess this with your mouth and believe it in your heart, asking Jesus Christ to be the Lord of your life. To repent is to want (from your heart) to change your way of living.

•Romans 10:9–10 But if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

So, I’m going to put here what some may call the sinner’s prayer.

Heavenly Father, I know that I’m a sinner. I come to you in the name of Jesus, the name that’s above all names. You know how I’ve lived my life but I’m now calling on the name of Jesus. I believe He went to the cross and died for my sins, was buried, and on the third day was raised from the dead. Right now, He’s alive and sitting at your right hand. I’m asking you Jesus to be my Lord. To live your life in me and through me this day and for all eternity. I surrender myself to you this day, and I’m completely yours. I thank you Father God, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name I pray, and I ask for your gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    CHAPTER ONE

    Understanding the Two Kingdoms

    The kingdom of God

Jesus came preaching the good news (the gospel), which was about His Father and the kingdom of God. This was His purpose as He stated in Luke 4:43 and Mark 1:14–15. Jesus did not hesitate to explain His purpose for being sent by His Father.

•Luke 4:43 but He told them, I must teach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.

•Mark 1:14–15 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, (15) and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.

Jesus’s kingdom has already been established in heaven, but the spiritual kingdom is in the born-again believer’s heart. The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all (Psalm 103:19). The physical kingdom of God here on earth will come after Jesus’s second return to earth.

Jesus explained to His disciples that the kingdom of God was not physical but a spiritual kingdom. Many times, Jesus was asked about His Father’s kingdom and Jesus explained that the kingdom was not of this world.

•Luke 17:20–21 (20) Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God will come, He answered them and said, The Kingdom of God does not come with observation; ( 21) nor would they say See here or See there! for indeed, the Kingdom of God is within you.

•Romans 14:17 for the Kingdom of God comes not with eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy, in the Holy Spirit.

(voc.) Righteousness: Purity of heart and rectitude of life; being and doing what’s right. As an attribute of God, it is united with His holiness as being essential in His nature. (The New Unger’s Bible Dictionary, p. 1081)

It is through God’s love that we will receive and experience God’s promised peace and joy. When Jesus Christ became our Lord and Savior, we were translated into God’s kingdom and are entitled to all His precious promises. We (a born-again believer) are now kingdom citizens.

•Colossians 1:13 who has delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. ( New King James Bible )

(voc.) Translated: The sense of removal of a person or thing from one state or condition to another. (The New Unger’s Bible Dictionary, p. 1301)

In God’s spiritual kingdom, we are His citizens and are to reign as kings here on earth. Jesus gave us power and authority, through the use of His mighty precious name. Amen! The early church acted in that power and authority of the name of Jesus. It being documented, Peter telling the lame man in the name of Jesus Christ to get up and walk. Peter spoke and acted in the same authority as Jesus Christ did here on earth. Peter acted as a citizen of the kingdom and worked through the power and authority of Jesus’s name. We are no different today as the children of God and the citizen of the same kingdom, because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Amen!

•Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in the heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

•Ephesians 2:12 That at the time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenant of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

•Ephesians 2:19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.

•Romans 5:17 For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself ] reign as kings in life through the one Man, Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
