Chapter 1: The New Teacher
It was the first day of seventh grade, and Emma Parker could hardly contain her excitement. It was her favorite time of year—the crisp air, the promise of new beginnings, and, of course, the endless possibilities that came with solving new puzzles and mysteries. Her best friend, Leo Alvarez, was beside her, just as eager as she was, though for different reasons. Leo loved the challenge of math and science, always looking for new problems to solve. Together, they made an unstoppable team.
As they made their way through the bustling halls of Ridgeview Middle School, the chatter of their classmates filled the air. It was a familiar buzz, a mix of excitement and nervousness, but something felt different about today. Emma couldn’t shake the `feeling that something—or someone—was waiting to change everything.
Hey, Emma, do you hear about the new teacher?
Leo asked, his voice full of curiosity.
Emma shrugged. Not much, except that he’s some kind of ‘doctor’ who just got hired. Everyone’s saying he’s kind of weird.
Leo raised an eyebrow. Weird? How so?
Emma grinned. Well, apparently, he’s got this strange, unsettling vibe. Some people say he doesn’t even smile.
Sounds like fun,
Leo joked, but Emma noticed he didn’t sound entirely convinced.
As they reached their classroom, the door creaked open, and they were greeted by the sight of their new teacher. Dr. Malachi stood at the front of the room, tall and thin, with sharp features and dark, intense eyes that seemed to pierce through them. His clothes were slightly outdated, like he had stepped out of another time—an old-fashioned suit with a bow tie that looked like it belonged to someone far older than him.
He wasn’t what Emma had expected at all. His presence was almost... ominous, and yet, there was something oddly magnetic about him. Emma’s puzzle-loving mind went to work immediately, her instincts telling her that there was more to Dr. Malachi than met the eye.
Welcome, class,
Dr. Malachi’s voice was deep, but strangely calm. I am Dr. Malachi, your new teacher for the year. I trust you’ll find our time together... enlightening.
The room fell silent, his words hanging in the air. Emma glanced at Leo, whose expression mirrored her own—uneasy, yet intrigued.
Dr. Malachi turned his gaze toward the class, his eyes lingering a moment longer on Emma and Leo than on the others. Something about that glance sent a chill down Emma’s spine, but she couldn’t explain why.
Let’s begin, shall we?
he said, his tone making it clear that this wouldn’t be an ordinary school year.
As Dr. Malachi started writing something on the board, Emma leaned toward Leo. Something’s off about him. I don’t trust him.
Leo nodded, his eyes still on their new teacher. I know what you mean. It’s like he’s always watching us... like he’s waiting for something.
Emma’s curiosity only deepened. Dr. Malachi might be their teacher, but Emma knew there was something he wasn’t telling them—something important. And she was determined to find out what it was.
The bell rang, signaling the start of the lesson, but Emma’s mind was already racing. Dr. Malachi was hiding something, and it was only a matter of time before she and Leo discovered what it was.
Chapter 2: A Mysterious Discovery
The next few days of school were uneventful, but Emma couldn’t shake the feeling that Dr. Malachi was always watching. Every time she looked up in class, she caught him studying her—his dark eyes seeming to pierce right
