Through interviews with more than 350 individuals, Schreier provides an in-depth look at Blizzard’s successes and struggles.

    Gaming Revolution

    In November 2023, a large crowd gathered in Anaheim, California, for BlizzCon, an event celebrating the games made by Blizzard Entertainment, especially World of Warcraft. Despite the excitement surrounding the event, Blizzard’s reputation had been tarnished by scandals and a lawsuit. The company, founded by Allen Adham and Mike Morhaime, had grown into a tech giant and was later acquired by Xbox.

    Adham had been passionate about video games since high school. He persuaded his father to purchase an Apple II computer so he could play and create games. Adham believed that gaming would become a major form of entertainment. He met Brian Fargo, a programmer, through a high school friend and began playtesting games.

    Adham aspired to start his own company. While at UCLA, he created his first game, Gunslinger, which was published by Datasoft. It was also at UCLA that Adham met Morhaime, and they
