About this ebook

Do you ever ask the universe, "Why me?" Do you know someone to whom many bad things have happened? Well, that's me. I have wondered if I was cursed. Did I do something bad in a previous life that I am paying penance for in this one? I mean, I have been in three tornadoes. My life has been filled with tragedies from the start. You know things are bad when you are constantly told you should write a book. So I did! My faith has been tested over and over again. Hopefully, this will give someone else the courage and faith to get through something they are going through.

So I have always been told God will not give you more than you can handle. Somehow, I don't think that rule applies to me. Sit back, buckle up, and I'm gonna take you on a wild ride.

The Little River Town of Ludlow

It all starts in a small town along the banks of the Ohio River on the Kentucky side. The river was my backyard; our house sat right on the shore. I had the most wonderful childhood any little girl could want in this Mayberry-ish small town. Although, from my birth, there has been pain.

I was born on February 27, 1963. My maternal grandmother died thirty days after I was born. My dad's dad had died a year before that from an inoperable brain tumor. So my dad, a twenty-five-year-old young man, newly married, a veteran of the army with a new baby, was dealing with both his parents having passed away, knowing he had to raise his fourteen-year-old brother, John. Also, to stay in my grandparents' house, he had to get a mortgage and take over the house payments so everyone could stay in the house. My dad took John under his wing and finished raising him after my mama's death. My uncle John lived with us and is more like a big brother to me than an uncle. He eventually enlisted in the Air Force and was taken away to serve his country, of which I am very proud of him. He would always send me gifts from the different places he would go all over the world. After the Air Force, he moved back to the area he grew up in, got married, and eventually had three girls and one boy. I just lost my uncle John recently. He was a wonderful man.

My childhood was like a storybook. In the town that I grew up in, every family was friends with the other families. We ran the streets on our bicycles. My days pretty much consisted of getting up early, hopping on my bike, and running around our small town with all of my friends. The world was so different in the '60s and '70s. I was so lucky to grow up in this time and form long-lasting friendships.

Several of my girlfriends from high school, the Girls, have a Christmas party every year, which started in our freshman year of high school in 1978. We still have our party to this day. Over the years, we have shared life's milestones. We went through years of college first, then marriages, divorces, babies, grandbabies, retirements, the
