This was a perfect stay for my Echigo-tsumari triennale trip. The inn keeper was professional and responsible. The breakfast was incredibly delicious! And the bathroom was so clean!
The guy that looked after us, Satoshi, was really nice and very accommodating- he didn't speak english and we didnt speak Japanese but we got by. It was end of season and very quiet feeling like we had the place to ourselves. It was clean and immaculate. The breakfast was beautifully presented and ample. He met uas at the station and dropped us off as well as taking us elsewhere as and when needed. A really good experience and we would return.
I stayed for three nights and could not be happier! Satoshi-san and his family are lovely, friendly people and made this a very relaxing experience. I recommend staying in the more traditional rooms with tatami and futons, it was very comfortable.
Note that, if you are a westerner, you may not find it to your liking to have a shared restroom and and bathroom. Please do not be put off by this, it's part of the experience and you can have 30 minutes of the bath all to yourself if you like. This isn't a Ryokan, more of a ski lodge, but it's much more intimate and cozy than some cold Tokyo hotel!
Upgrade to get the breakfast in the morning, it's worth it. Satoshi-san is a great host and will probably offer to pick you up from Echigo-Yuzawa station. It's within walking distance of Ishiuchi station, too, if you choose.
I stayed at the end of summer and it was outside the ski season. I don't know what it would be like when it's busier, but I sure had a good stay.
The proprietor is hard working and accommodating. He made my stay very enjoyable. I stayed in October because of its close location to several attractions I wanted to visit. The property is designed and kept to cater to skiers. Only 1 minute walk to the lifts so very convenient for skiers.
The owner, Satoshi- san is very accommodating and pick us up from the Echigo Station at very last minute notice. He and Nezu were very friendly, drove and showed us tourist attractions/eateries in their area. Breakfast was big and delicious for us. Also, rental of ski equipment from him is much cheaper vs the ski resort itself.
Overall, a very comfortable and happy experience with Satoshi.
