Room was a bit tight for 4 people. Normally the beds are prepared for sleeping at the end of the day but it was not the case in this hotel. Dinner and breakfast were good- big spread and delicious.
The room is a bit dated but overall still a pleasant stay. Room is spacious with a good view of Mt Aso. Dinner included is very so-so, breakfast is better. Public bath is fantastics with several onsen and an outdoor onsen. Good family hotel.
Fantastic stay at hotel kamenoi with the panoramic view of the mount aso greeting us every morning and star gazing at night. My kids absolutely love the huge grass patch and the myriad of toys, sports equipment like baseball, curve ball and soccer balls to keep them occupied. The outdoor onsen is a must try. Definitely recommend this hotel to fellow travellers
Very pretty area in the mountains; quite a walk from the train station, but there's a shuttle with a very good, kind, and informative driver. Unfortunately there aren't many trains at the station, and the shuttle starts after the first train leaves (the next leaves several hours later). Breakfast was good, dinner was good but the same every night and very very expensive (8000 Y per person for a buffet). Not much in the way of directions to local attractions like the volcano hikes etc. although they do have a book telling you about local attractions (in Japanese; the staff also don't speak English, which isn't an issue really but it would be nice to have written guides in English). A car would be very helpful if you're staying here.
Negatives: no gym and the onsen is a bit old.
Positives: plenty of free parking places. The included breakfast and dinner is fantastic. Beautiful view from the hotel room. Can see Mt Aso from the room.
Rooms were spacious and clean but pillows were too soft. Buffet breakfast supposed to end at 9am, was very disappointed there was no more salmon when I went down at around 8.15am and the staff did not replenish food items that ran out. Overall, both breakfast and dinner buffet spread were mediocre considering the high price. Staff were not extremely warm and hospitable for Japanese standard.
Breakfast and dinner buffets exactly the same three days in a row. Exactly, from the main courses to the vegetables and desserts. Dining room thrown together like a public school cafeteria. Management seems to be run by an accountant from Tokyo, someone who has never spent a night there, and certainly never stayed for breakfast or dinner.
