From trendy galleries to trendier bars, diving to biking, Brisbane is ready and willing to be whatever kind of destination you want it to be.

There are so many different things to do and see in Brisbane, it really is the city that caters for every type of holiday. With huge shopping centres brimming with options from bargain to high-end, a multitude of gourmet restaurants and romantic cruises along the river, the choices are seemingly endless. Whether you're an adrenaline junkie who likes to live on the wild side, or museums and culture are more your thing, don't worry, this sunny city has it all!

Take the ferry up the river and stop off at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where you can feed the kangaroos and even cuddle a koala. For a more exotic wildlife experience, jump in the car and head for Australia Zoo to see the legacy of Steve Irwin.

If it's a proper adventure you're after, rent an SUV and drive out to Moreton Island National Park, where you can camp on a deserted beach, dive amongst shipwrecks and observe whales and sharks from a safe vantage point.

Head back into the city to make the most of the cultural hub that is South Bank, home to the renowned Queensland Performing Arts Centre and the exceptional Brisbane Powerhouse, a converted power plant. Also in this district you will find magnificent galleries and museums, the Gallery of Modern Art and Museum of Brisbane to name but two, both of which are free.

Check out Brisbane's nightlife around the Fortitude Valley area, a hotspot of sophisticated bars and live music venues. Alternatively, Burnett Lane, with its gourmet restaurants and stylish cocktail bars, will keep you entertained all night.

Brisbane boasts more than 27 kilometres of bicycle paths which are a great way to see the city without being held up by traffic or worrying about parking spaces. These trails conveniently run alongside the Brisbane River and through the city centre. That being said, the city does have an extensive transportation network in place, servicing local, regional, national and international destinations.

What really sets "Brissie" apart is that this dynamic city, with its top-class amenities and cultural venues, is set against the backdrop of awe-inspiring, sun-drenched scenery. What more could a visitor possibly ask for?

Suggested Itineraries

DAY 1: Discover The City

Explore the city by foot, starting at Roma Street. Wind your way down to the river, crossing Kurilpa bridge and stopping for lunch in Stanley Street. Continue through the Southbank parklands to Kangaroo Point. The Story Bridge climb is an exciting new adventure in the city. Experience the thrill of the ascent, and then the stunning river views on top. Back on ground, head to the West End for Sicilian-style mussels and a glass of wine at The Red Hen.

DAY 2: Walk With The Animals

Get to the Cultural Centre Pontoon and jump onboard the Mirimar Boat Cruise departing for Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary at 10am. Spend your morning cuddling Koalas and feeding Kangaroos before heading back to the city by bus. Get off in the CBD and make your way to Paddington. Wander the leafy streets, indulge in some retail therapy, and rest weary legs in quirky cafes. Tonight, head to Fortitude Valley for a night out at some of Brisbane's trendiest bars.

DAY 3: Get Cultured

Grab brunch at The Gunshop Cafe before wandering along the river to the Gallery of Modern Art. Suitable for all ages and with world-famous pieces, it's a must-see. Next on the culture checklist is the free and interactive Queensland Museum. Take a break from the indoors at Southbank parklands with a swim at the beach before moving on to the Maritime Museum around the corner. End the day with a sunset drink at Customs House, a short CityCat trip away.

DAY 4: One Last Hurrah

Spend your last day discovering Brisbane's stunning surroundings with a day cruise to Tangalooma Island. This island paradise is just seventy-five minutes from the city, and has breathtaking stretches of white sands. There are loads of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, like hand-feeding dolphins, whale watching, and exploring beached shipwrecks. Spend the day here and fit in as much as possible! When you're back in Brisbane, finish your break in style at Jade Buddha, toasting the end of your stay with a signature mojito.

I love Brisbane. I would move back there without hesitation if I had the resources. It is a small-town-capital-city! Has all the benefits of a Capital City, without the confusion, stress, hassle, or ATTITUDE of Sydney or Melbourne.

Brisbane is a lovely city, unfortunately with coronavirus advice, precautions had to be taken to stay away from people and places so I could not enjoy the experience .
