"Location great within a 10 minute walk of the two railway stations and 1 minute walk to Tozen bus stop. 7-11 grocery store 2 mins walk away which is well stocked. Lovely modern property with everything you’d need really including well appointed kitchen and good instructions on all appliances. Minus point would be the road noise at times but it’s a local road not a highway."
"Wonderfully modern and clean home. The best part was the restaurant next door and the private Onsen soaring tub. They provide a number toiletries as a convenience if you didn’t bring any. The mini splits do take time to warm up the home, but once they do it is very comfortable. "
"We had a wonderful stay at Villa Hakone Stage. The Villa itself is quite spacious (we had a family of three staying) - a welcome change from the cramped living conditions in Tokyo. The villa was clean and very comfortable. The location is right next to both the "pirate" ship port and the ropeway to the top of Owakudani. We arrived via the Romance Car and Hakone Tozan Train from Shinjuku and then caught the Cable Car and Ropeway to the villa (it is a short walk from the Ropeway station). The host...
"We had a very brief stay and it was clean, comfortable and as described on the website. Very happy. About 8-10 min walk from train station, beautiful walk over the footbridge. Only issue is lack of restaurants after 19:00 and we never received our code to check in to the room-luckily staff was onsite to quickly assist!"
"I booked 3 days to stay in this property. We decided on the first day that it is not for us and refunded the last day.
Cons:
To start, the walk to the property is the furthest walk on the entire street practically only up hill walking. It is quite annoying to get anywhere if you want to leave the property.
The laundry machine is broken and leaks everywhere, leading to badly washed clothes and a wet floor.
The beds were wet before we entered the villa. We tried to sleep, but too moist to...
"Very nice place for vacation, clean and spacious. It’s raining so we couldn’t enjoy in balcony.
Also very nice bath tub! Very good maintenance, things like new."
"The property exceeded my expectations. The only complaint I have is that some of the entries in their complementary guidebook led to some wasted time due to inaccuracies. I would definitely go to this accomodation again but I hope by then they have updated their book.
Also there's the apparent fact that no public onsen seem to be in the area, so you should probably plan for going to hakone yamoto (hope I spelled that right) to get access to those. There actually is a small public one near this...
"This was a beautiful property. Everything was clean, updated, and easy to find. The host left a very helpful instructional booklet describing how to use all of the amenities, and even instructions on how to best prepare the food. Overall it was a wonderful stay and we would love to stay here again!!"

Hakone Kowakien TEN-YU
5/5 Excellent
"Beautiful hotel, in a very lovely location."

"Our first ryokan experience and it was amazing. This place is a little remote and it was snowing and raining when we arrived so we decided to stay in and enjoy the relaxing 2 days here. The Japanese breakfast is awesome. If you want to try their dinner, make sure to email and order at least 2 days in advanced, it costs 8800 yen per person but it totally worth every penny. This is all private onsen meaning that you get the whole area for your group. Need to make reservations for onsen as well and we can have 2 onsen per day, each time lasts 50 minutes. The hot springs water is hot so we enjoy the outdoor onsen a lot more even it was snowing. Wish we live nearby so we can enjoy this more often. The staff are super nice and helpful."
"The best experience we have ever had! We were given a drink on arrival, escorted to the most majestic room we’ve ever stayed in before a phenomenal dinner. We woke ourselves up by getting in the onsen as snow hit the mountains and roofs around us! 10/10, the most memorable experience!"
"We stayed at Karaku for one night and were blown away by how beautiful the hotel was and the exceptional service of the staff, most notably Mr. Lee. I booked a West Wing room with open air onsen that included dinner at 5pm. It felt like a good idea at the time because we planned to do the ropeway and pirate boat ride, but unfortunately when we stayed it decided to snow and those activities were closed. The hotel was so helpful in moving our dinner to 7:30pm so we had time to explore. I kind of regretted that though because the amenities and comfort of the hotel were probably the best we’ve ever experienced. The room was amazing, we didn’t want to leave. Complimentary traditional clothing is provided for comfort around the hotel and the dining room (but not required, as there’s no dress code). They also offer a guest lounge that offered complimentary afternoon and morning snacks and beverages. Highly recommend! The diner was top notch, but recommend if you book the meals, research what you’re getting. We paid for a Japanese style breakfast, but decided to pass on it in the morning. We didn’t do enough research, and wouldn’t have included breakfast or dinner in our reservation if we could do it again (sorry, we’re just not huge seafood lovers, and it was primarily all seafood).
Highly recommend staying here! It was expensive, but you literally felt like you were living in luxury here, and to have our own private outdoor onsen was amazing."
"I would give this 6 stars! The theme of the ryokan took us back to retro Japanese era. We enjoyed the indoor and outdoor baths to the fullest. We will definitely plan to come back"
