San Jose is a vibrant city in the heart of Silicon Valley, home to a range of unique museums, beautiful parks and a great nightlife scene.
If you are visiting the city between May and November, make sure to visit the Downtown Farmers Market, where you can buy some of the freshest produce available, including fruit, vegetables and other baked treats. There are a variety of local wines to sample as you stroll through the stalls, which is always a plus! Downtown is also home to a range of events, especially in summer, as well as bustling bars, cocktail lounges, and Broadway shows. So, make sure to check online to see what is happening during your visit. For history or paranormal fans, a visit the world-famous Winchester Mystery House is a must. Spend the afternoon taking a guided tour of the “house built by the spirits” and discover its weird and wacky history and the architecture that the house is known for, including staircases that lead to nowhere, doors that open into walls and skylights in the floor! When you visit make sure to keep an eye out for ghosts, especially the third floor where footsteps and voices can often be heard, or if you are lucky enough to visit on Friday the 13th of any month, join an after dark ghost tour of the house.
Luckily for fitness junkies, San Jose is surrounded by a plethora of parks and hiking trails, including Los Gatos Creek Trail, Almaden Quicksilver Country Park, and Mount Umunhum, which provides a stunning 360-degree view of Santa Clara Valley and the San Francisco Bay. Or, if you are looking to head outdoors but aren’t up for much strenuous activities, why not check out some of the 150 wineries located in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley. Some of the wineries also have activities such as horseback riding and hiking trails, as well as live music, so check online to see which location will be the perfect spot for you and your friends!
However, if you want to stay within the city for an evening of shopping, dining and partying, Santana Row is the place to be. Home to an assortment of restaurants ranging from casual burger joints to gourmet Italian and French restaurants, it is the best place to start your night out on the town, especially since most of the places on the row have happy hours!
