Bombyliidae family) are all harmless but bear an uncanny resemblance to honeybees, having large, beelike heads and oversized abdomens marked with bold bands of yellow and black.
The subspecies are insect-pollinated and serviced primarily by a variety of insects (Andrenidea, Halictidae, Megachilidae, and Apidae in the Hymenoptera;
Bombyliidae in the Diptera, among others; Grant and Grant 1965; Powell and Hogue 1979; Nagy 1995).

Bombyliidae, Diptera) from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and is the first record of the genus from the Arabian Peninsula.

Danaus gilippus, milkweed bugs (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae: Lygaeus and Oncopeltus), wasps (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae, Scoliidae, Sphecidae, Vespidae), and Diptera (
Bombyliidae, Conopidae, Stratiomyidae) were not observed removing pollinia in either year [ILLUSTRATION FOR FIGURE 3 OMITTED], although pollinia were found in small quantities on some of these visitors in our haphazard collections.
The origin of the
Bombyliidae (in a broader sense, including Mythicomyiinae, as recently supported by Trautwein et al.
subcordatum populations (Ashmeadiella, Hoplitis, Xylocopa tabaniformis orpifex,
Bombyliidae, and Hesperiidae), only Ashmeadiella and Hoplitis appeared to be potential pollinators.
Parasitism was observed in 17 cells (22.95%), of which three (4.05%) were attacked by Sarcophagidae, three (4.05% by
Bombyliidae, three (4.05%) by Chrysididae, four (5.40%) by Ichneumonidae and four (5.40%) by non identified parasites.
