The agency did not act on the petitions until July 2009, when it required the manufacturer of
Darvon and Darvocet, Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals Inc., to conduct a new safety study of the drug in healthy volunteers.
Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals Inc., the drug's owner since 2005, will withdraw both
Darvon and Darvocet, a product that combines
Darvon's active ingredient with acetaminophen, Food and Drug Administration officials said.
* Pain medications: Certain pain medications, such as morphine, codeine, Percocet,
Darvon, Demerol and OxyContin, can cause symptoms of depression while in use, and upon withdrawal.
The most commonly prescribed, and the most commonly abused by teens, are OxyContin,
Darvon, Vicodin, Percocet, Percodan, and Tylenol with Codeine.
Examples of opioids include morphine, codeine, methadone, Demerol, and
Darvon.
Of those who used pain relievers, 48% used Vicodin, Lortab, or Lorcet; 34% used Darvocet,
Darvon, or Tylenol with codeine; and 20% used Percocet, Percodan, or Tylox.

darvon, and phenobarbital.
A 2001 government survey found that close to 3 million kids between 12 and 17 had used prescription drugs, such as
Darvon, Demerol, OxyContin, Percodan and Vicodin, for "fun." And girls are more likely to indulge in this foolish "fun" than guys.
A proponent of the school of thought that, as she put it, "sequins save lives," Diana fulfilled our populist insistence that celebrities fraternize with less fortunate members of society by dandling legless children in mine-strewn Third-World nations and appearing like a celestial vision at the bedside of gay men addled by morphine and
Darvon. "I still remember," one AIDS victim recalls, "how clear her eyes were and how beautiful and shiny her necklace." Her international display of kindness and modesty raked in millions and lingers on in our memories inspiring charitable donations years after her death, posthumous tributes that led one philanthropist to refer to her as "the gift that keeps on giving."
People addicted to pharmaceutical opiates, such as Vicodin, Oxycontin,
Darvon, Percocet and other prescription painkillers, would be candidates for the new drug, he said.
