As the world's third registered women's
Everest expedition team, the five members - Maizi and four other climbers from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sichuan and Yunnan - have received nationwide attention.
The book follows a cast of characters that includes Marshall, an American veteran who was a radio operator in the Iraq War, and Arjun, who at 16 hopes to become the youngest Indian to climb
Everest. We also meet Meagan, a member of the Canadian military who saved a woman's life on an earlier climb, and Nelson, a Columbian who climbs with a prosthetic leg.
The two climbers were part of the ninth British expedition to
Everest led by British Army Colonel John Hunt.
Around 3,000 people have climbed to the
Everest summit since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to conquer the peak in 1953.
While Sir Edmund trained for
Everest in his native New Zealand, he grew to have a close affinity with the Welsh mountaineers' hotel, where he returned for almost all the
Everest crew's reunions.

Now the pair will undertake a 14-day trek to Mount
Everest, perform an acoustic set at base camp to be beamed worldwide on MTV Unplugged before a grande finale rock concert in Kathmandu in Nepal.

Everest team want 208 volunteers for the 23-day expedition to
Everest Base Camp - which is 5,300 metres (17,225 ft) above sea level - early next year.
