The three-day Besakhi festival begins on the first day of Besakh (April 11), the fifth month of the Bikrami calendar, with the recitation of the Guru
Granth Sahib. The 1,430-page scripture is recited during the three days without pause.
Leading it were groups of Sewadar, who sprayed the road with water, followed by groups with sweeping brushes ahead of a float carrying priests and the Sikh holy scriptures, the Guru
Granth Sahib.
There are two halls in the darbar, in one of which is placed the Guru
Granth Sahib. The other serves as a Kirtan Halland Pathshala where the young Hindus are taught the Gurmukhi script - thus enabling them to understand the Guru
Granth Sahib.
This festival also marks conversion of Adi Granth into Guru
Granth Sahib and finalizing many other elements of Sikh religion.
