TURP is the gold standard surgical treatment for patients with moderate to severe lower urinary tract symptoms associated with BPH, and is most effective in relieving BOO due to large prostate size (11).
PAE caused less blood loss and fewer side effects than
TURP, but more men reported pain afterwards (56% after PAE versus 32% after
TURP).
Blanchard in his study showed that patients put on alpha-blocker therapy before
TURP showed poorer outcome following
TURP than those who underwent
TURP directly.2 The Prostate gland produces thin, milky fluid containing Citric acid and Acidphosphatase.3 Most cases of the Chronic Prostatitis (CP) and 70% of the Cancer prostate arise in peripheral zone.4
All patients of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), whose symptoms were longstanding, not relieved by medical line of management, who had at least one failed trial to void and underwent Transurethral Resection of Prostate (
TURP) were included in the study.
Most promising results can be expected in a subgroup of patients with prostate volume larger than 80 mL in which
TURP has shown to have higher complication rates, while PAE so far has not shown to have an upper limit of prostate volume that can be effectively treated (17).
Patients with elevated prostate specific antigen (PSA), findings on digital rectal examination (DRE) and with already diagnosed prostatic cancer prior to
TURP were excluded from the study.
Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Professor Dr Ghias Nabi Tayyab expressed satisfaction and said that this Bipolar
TURP would be low cost and more beneficial for the patients as it would cost Rs3 lac in the private sector while at LGH it would be almost free of cost.
Spinal or general anesthesia can be used during
TURP. Excess prostate tissue (not the complete gland) surrounding the urethra is cut away through use of a resectoscope (Kandhway, 2016; Urology Care Foundation, 2017).
Mr
Turp said: "Our members have had enough, and as a result the profession is shrinking.
(1-4) For eight decades, the gold standard surgery for bothersome benign prostatic obstruction (BPO) has been monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate (
TURP).
Although there are competing alternatives available to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), transurethral resection of the prostate (
TURP) remains the gold standard using either general or spinal anesthesia.
Invoking the Catalan coalition, the PQ's Daniel
Turp called for a dialogue among Quebec's sovereigntist forces and appealed for a rapprochement of Left, right and centre with the aim of forming a broad coalition of sovereigntist parties which would forego promoting any specific program to focus instead on championing the benefits of sovereignty.
Either transurethral resection of prostate (
TURP) or simple prostatectomy can help in reducing the urinary symptoms associated with BPH.
