The woody vegetation is currently dominated by Cornus drummondii (rough-leaved dogwood),
Ulmus americana (American elm), and Celtis occidentalis (hackberry).
The Witchey's Island site is representative of an eastern Nebraska riparian forest with a mixed-hardwood community, where the tree canopy is Celtis occidentalis, hackberry; Fraxinus pennslyvanica, green ash; Morus alba, white mulberry; Quercus macrocarpa, bur oak; and
Ulmus americana, American elm.
