Seven more young musicians, three
cellists and four singers, will be honing their skills in a day of masterclasses at Cowbridge Comprehensive School on September 21 with the expert help of Gary Griffiths and
cellist Alice Neary.

And on Wednesday, the Russian American
cellist will be putting Warwick Arts Centre's Butterworth Hall to the test when she arrives with the Moscow State Symphony orchestra for the final concert in the venue's current concert series.
Ros Rigby, performance programme director at The Sage Gateshead said she was very pleased that the orchestra was receiving such recognition, adding: "We are absolutely delighted that the only concerto recording to be nominated in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category in this year's Grammy Awards is the album released by AVIE featuring
cellist Antonio Meneses, playing concerti by Gal and Elgar, with the Northern Sinfonia."
In honor of the occasion, the quartet was temporarily transformed into a quintet, augmented by Russian
cellist Svetlana Yartseva, who came into town especially for this concert.
But the breadth of this work takes us far beyond the
cellist's gesture.

The
cellist, who lived in Paris after self-imposed exile, suffered from intestinal cancer.
Robert deMaine, principal
cellist of the Detroit Symphony, with Pauline Martin, pianist, presented the Artist Recital.
Cellist Jeremy Dawson, said: "It was absolutely fantastic going up there and it was a real highlight of the tour.
It is due to be premiered early in 2006 by
cellist Paul Watkins and the Philharmonia Orchestra, of which Charles is patron.

cellist Ani Aznavoorian, while in the second part, violinist Vadim Gluzman joined pianist Angela Yoffe--both couples performed stage left.

cellist Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project (which he started "to share and explore the rich cultural traditions of the peoples of the Silk Road") takes a "personal look at the arts and cultures of the Silk Road lands as they are practiced in America." Included are profiles of eight artists and artisans now living in America who are originally from the Silk Road, an "ancient network of caravan trails" through which goods and ideas were traded, and which "for more than two thousand years connected Asia to the Mediterranean and beyond." Subjects profiled engage in various artistic occupations such as singing opera, writing calligraphy and practicing martial arts, One featured subject is ouds, a Greek instrument similar to a lute.
