The conidial chain with isthimi consists of seven conidia and aggregates in slimy masses, single conidium smooth, gutullate, aseptate, and the conidia remain attached to one another by narrow isthimi (Figures 3 and 4).

A minimum of400 conidia were examined for germination; a conidium was considered viable (germinated) if it had produced a visible germination peg during the specified incubation time.

The loop with the accumulated conidia was streaked across a dish of WA and incubated for 12 to 30 hours at 28 [degrees]C after which a single germinating conidium was transferred to an SNA plate for inoculum production.

Figure lA shows a mature conidium and figure lB shows a chlamydospore.

The results from inoculation trials revealed that the parasite can enter the host by direct penetration of epithelial cells from a conidium that forms an appressorum-like structure or from a spore germ-tube that grows directly through a stoma.
