The pelvic fins, as a pair of filamentous rays, in Chilara taylori and Ophidion scrippsae (Basketweave Cusk-eel) (the two ophidiids with which it would most likely be confused), are inserted on the isthmus vertically under the eye.

On the other hand, almost the entire edible fraction of codling, hake, monkfish and the pink cusk-eel was composed of crude protein (96.2-91.9% of dry matter; Table 1) as opposed to beardfish and argentine goatfish, which exhibited the lowest protein contents in their edible fractions (64.4-64.7% of dry matter).

Mean values of slope and outer shelf/shelf break species did not differ significantly (KW; P = 0.796) but the slope species, pink cusk-eel, monkfish and codling were the most valuable among the selected species (US$ 1.02, 0.97 and 0.87 [kg.sup.-1], respectively).

As of 2013, only 2 cusk-eel species were known from British Columbia in the scientific literature, and both species are represented by few museum specimens.

New cusk-eel specimens were obtained between 1999 and 2007 by Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and Royal British Columbia Museum (RBCM) staff while aboard the CCGS W.E.
