In the first study, men and women showed equal levels of
empathy for the female victim - but men's greater
empathy for the male perpetrator explained why they were more likely than women to blame the victim.
Overall, victim-blaming was not high but they found male participants who blamed the victim more than women had greater
empathy for the male perpetrator.
Research shows that people with high level of
empathy sometimes believe suffering is part of caring for others.
