To dissipate my own doubts, I could think of but one method--it was, to see a healthy
glottis exposed in the very act of singing; but how could the mysteries of an organ so well hidden be unveiled?
Optimal external laryngeal manipulation versus MCCoy blade in active position in patients with poor view of
glottis on direct laryngoscopy.
In this case, the goitre pushed the
glottis ventrally, and I had to consider four axes during intubation: the oral axis which was 81[degrees] to the horizontal on X-ray at maximum retroflexion, the pharyngeal axis (3[degrees]), the tracheal (6[degrees]), and the glottic-pharyngeal axis (31[degrees]) (Figure 1).
Laryngoscopy was again used to expose the
glottis and the two-centimeter rubber band in the
glottis.
As it was a prospectively difficult case of
glottis exposure without the difficulty of mask ventilation, we chose rocuronium for better muscle relaxation and
glottis exposure, thus rejected retaining spontaneous respiration.
The vocal fold displacement is quantified by measuring the area of the
glottis. Image segmentation was performed on each frame of the video to automatically identify the
glottis.
A video laryngoscope (C-MAC D-blade, Karl Storz Endoskope, Beirut, Lebanon) was used to visualize the
glottis. A Venn Reusable Tracheal Tube Introducer (Smiths Medical, St.
The aim of this study was to compare C-MAC D-blade with Macintosh laryngoscope in terms of
glottis view, time to intubation, intubation difficulty score (IDS) and hemodynamic stability in patients with normal airway scheduled for elective surgical procedure.
Grades 3 and 4 were taken as difficult viewing of
glottis [9].
Rapid increase in intrathoracic or intratracheal pressure against a closed
glottis during blunt chest or lower neck impact can result in laryngotracheal rupture.
By night time it had escalated into a raw
glottis that had me sleeping sitting up in bed to keep my airways open.
The site most commonly involved was
glottis, with 19 of 60 cases, followed by oral cavity with 11 cases.
