He said deals placed on ledgers as 400 bales of Burewala changed hands at Rs 6,550 per

maund, 400 bales of Kabirwala at Rs 6,700 per
maund, 200 bales of Khanewal at Rs 6,700 per

maund, 300 bales of Pak Pattan at Rs 6,400 per

Last year in July, cotton price touched a record level of Rs9,500 per
maund.
He said physical lint prices remained firm, as fine grade fetched over Rs 6,450 per
maund and most of the dealing was range-bound.
The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rates were steady at Rs8,800 per
maund.
He said, the government was giving Rs 1.9 million subsidy on 933
maund seed.
KCA senior trader Shakeel Ahmad said trading remained under the bullish spell as several deals in Sindh and Punjab changed hands for around Rs 6,460 per
maund. Ahmad said, "Despite rising prices of cotton, buyers are ready to capitalise every opportunity to mature deals on back of bright yarn export prospects.
In the midst of brisk activity, cotton from Sindh and Punjab hovered around Rs7,300-9,100 per
maund and phutti (seed cotton) was quoted in the range of Rs3,400-3,600 per 40kg.
Director Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) Multan Syed Sajid Masud Shah said that at the start of the cotton picking, the farmers in Sindh were disappointed by the per
Maund price of Phutti that ranged between Rs 1800-2000 per
Maund at that time.
The KCA spot rate increased by Rs 100 per
maund to stay at Rs 6,100 per
maund while physical prices remained above Rs 6,300 per
maund, floor brokers said.
As a result, prices increased between Rs200-300 per
maund for quality lint and Rs100 per
maund for second grade cotton.

KARACHI, August 21, 2011 (Frontier Star): Cotton price has improved by Rs 100 to Rs 6,500 per
maund this week due to rising demand by mills and exporters and short supply, the brokers said on Saturday.
The KCA spot rate remained at Rs 6,000 per
maund while physical prices remained above Rs 6,200 per
maund, floor brokers said.
Prices for Sindh and Punjab cotton varieties hovered around Rs7,000-9,000 per
maund and phutti (seed cotton) are quoted in the range of Rs2,800-3,600 per 40 kg.
