JEDDAH: Saudi Arabian Border Guards have intercepted two boats attempting to
smuggle large quantities of cannabis into the Kingdom.
Earlier this year, a Jet Airways cabin crew member on a Dubai-Mumbai flight was caught trying to
smuggle gold and diamonds worth Dhs577,000 at Mumbai airport.
For example, a smuggler might purchase a large quantity of cigarettes in a place with low taxes and
smuggle them into a place with higher taxes, where they can be sold at a far higher margin than would otherwise be possible.
TEHRAN (FNA)- Naval forces of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) intercepted a Somali tanker ship that was trying to
smuggle a large amount of diesel fuel from Iran to a Persian Gulf Arab state.
Many unskilled persons working in the Gulf are suspected to be easy victims for smuggling rackets and offer their services to
smuggle gold, risking their future.
Muscat, Apr3 (ONA) Directorate General of Customs (DGC) managed in January and February to foil many attempts to
smuggle through border outlets, among them, attempts to
smuggle oil derevatives (Gasoil).
''We were caught afterwards and put under arrest at the Central Prison until 2005 when we were sent to LebanonC*Next day I returned illegally to Syria and resumed my work in smuggling as a resident in TalkalakhC*We used to
smuggle heating fuel, tobacco, cement and hardware until March 2011 when smuggling was hit by events.'' He added that he was involved in smuggling weapons from Wadi Khaled, adding ''we smuggled automatic rifles, RPG launchers, ammunition, bullets and drugs, and I was responsible for enwrapping the smuggled stuff while the rest of the group carried them across the borders.'' Moussa added that someone called Mahmoud Khalaf was responsible for distributing the weapons inside Syria through a group coming from Talkalakh.
First two are the major routes to
smuggle traded goods, while the remaining routes are mainly used for both way smuggling of commodities.
Private sector strongly feels that reduction in import tariff on
smuggle prone items is the only solution to discourage the smuggling under the garb of ATTA and they are also of the view that increased legal imports would compensate the fall in reduction in the rate of import tariff.
But unbeknownst to them, the Mexican with Lebanese roots also was fielding calls on his cell phone from illegal Lebanese immigrants whom he secretly was helping to
smuggle over the U.S.
